Gareth Southgate enjoyed a gentle start to life in charge of the Three Lions with Daniel Sturridge and Dele Alli grabbing the goals, but who scooped the MOTM?

Daniel Sturridge and Dele Alli handed Gareth Southgate a victory in his first game in charge of England in a 2-0 victory over Malta.
The former Three Lions under-21 boss made the surprising move to hand Jesse Lingard a full debut and was rewarded by a bright display from the Manchester United winger.
England strolled to victory to ensure maximum points from two games in Group F for World Cup qualification after two goals in nine minutes from Sturridge and Alli in the first half.
The hosts took their foot off the gas in the second half with Jamie Vardy and Marcus Rashford introduced and Alli should've made it three from point blank range, but it didn't matter in the end.
Mirror Football's John Cross was at the game, here's how he rated the Three Lions:

His matching boots and gloves combo looked good. One good late save.

Terrific overlapping runs, a real outlet for England. Such an improved player.

Gary Cahill 6

Was ill on Friday but was desperate to play as he is now just one away from 50 caps.

Scored and was lively, always involved. Missed absolute sitter late on.

Theo Walcott 6

Had a decent, solid if unspectacular game. Saw one big chance well saved.
