Omer Toprak scored a bizarre own goal on Sunday night as Turkey were beaten 2-0 by Iceland.
Elmar Bjarnason's effort late in the first half was heading well wide of the right-hand post, before deflecting off Toprak's head and bouncing into the net.
Iceland grabbed a second minutes later through Augsburg's Alfred Finnbogason, who volleyed home from 15 yards as Turkey fell apart late in the first period.
That's how it stayed in Reykjavik, meaning Iceland moved up to second in World Cup qualifying Group I, level with leaders Croatia after picking up seven points in their opening three games.
Turkey, who have collected just two points out of a possible nine, are down in fourth.
Elsewhere in Group I, Croatia were narrow 1-0 winners against Finland, while Ukraine beat Kosovo 3-0 to sit third with five points.
