Arsenal have offered just €25m for Borussia Monchengladbach captain Granit Xhaka, a sum the Bundesliga side are determined not to sell for.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger wants Xhaka at the Emirates Stadium this summer and Arsenal are working on a deal to take the Switzerland international from Borussia-Park.

But their opening bid for a player Gladbach value at between €40m and €50m, is just €25m according to German daily Bild, something which has left the Bundesliga side stunned.

Sporting director Max Eberl was quoted as saying: "There is an offer, but that does not mean that we let Granit go.

Xhaka wants his future done and dusted before Euro 2016 this summer and the ball is now in Arsenal's court to drastically increase their offer for the midfielder.

Gladbach are ready to part with Xhaka for the right price, but Arsenal are running the risk of further clubs joining the chase by starting with such a low bid.

It remains to be seen what Arsenal's next move will be.
