Sony Sugar 2-1 Mathare United: ‘Slum Boys’ fall yet again

Both sides started the match on a high note with the home side pressurizing their visitors with every little chance they got, and it was not a surprise when they took the lead
Mathare United's inconsistent run in SportPesa Premier League continued as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat in the hands of Sony Sugar at Awendo Green Stadium on Sunday.
Victor Ademba gave the home side the lead in the 12th minute before David Mwangi made things even ten minutes later. Andrew Ssekayombya ensured all the three points remain in Awendo with a fine finish nine minutes from time to hand Babu Salim a well deserved win as Stanley Okumbi once again failed to push his side to victory.
Both sides started the match on a high note with the home side pressurizing their visitors with every little chance they got, and it was not a surprise when they took the lead early. The goal pushed the 'Slum Boys', who reacted immediately with Erick Johanna and Andrew Tololwa troubling the opponent's defence that stood to the occasion and denied the duo goal sight.
However, they could do nothing in the 22nd minute as Mwangi was put through to equalize for Mathare United, who had looked likely to get the goal. The ever dangerous Samuel Onyango drove a fierce shot towards the goal which Peter Odhiambo did well to punch out for a fruitless corner in the the half an hour mark.
Victor Ademba and Marwa Chamberi had their chances as well in the 36th and 43rd minutes respectively but they did not make them count as Mathare were pinned in their own half thanks to ambitious play from the home team.
After the break Mathare looked keen to find a second goal, pulling strings from just outside the 18-yard box, however they lacked that final touch which could create a goal. On the other side, Onyango continued to force things to happen for the sugar millers and it was no surprise when he was cautioned in the 48th minute for as foul on Johanna.
Robinson Kamura did well to clear a dangerous corner in the 60th minute which almost teed off Ezekiel Seda but Chamberi fouled the latter which resulted to a yellow card. After that the ball flew from one end to another as both sides looked for a second goal. With the match seemingly heading to a one all draw, the Ugandan import had other ideas as he was given a chance to fire home and help his side bag maximum points.
The result pushes Sony to eleventh on the table with 28 points, two less than Mathare United, who are a place higher.

AFC Leopards 1-2 Chemelil: Ingwe season gets from bad to worse

A double from Meshack Karani ensured that Ingwe's poor run in SportPesa Premier League continued as they went tumbling again at City Stadium

AFC Leopards suffered another defeat after going down 1-2 to Chemelil Sugar in a SportPesa Premier League match played at City Stadium on Saturday.

Meshack Karani grabbed a double for the visiting sugar millers in either half as Duncan Otieno scored forIngwe a consolation in a late comeback but they could not salvage a point.

Stand-in coach Ezekiel Akwana admitted afterwards that they had lost the game after conceding the second goal. “We tried a late comeback but nothing came out of it. Chemelil sealed the game minutes they scored their second goal and it really affected my players. We tried and tried but we have lost.”
Ingwe came into the match having lost boardroom points to Gor Mahia following last Sunday’s aborted derby at Nyayo Stadium. The derby was stopped in 65th minute after AFC Leopards fans protested at referees’ decision to award Gor Mahia a penalty after Jackson Saleh had handled the ball inside the box.
Leopards’, who needed a win in this home match, played minus coach Zdravko Logarusic, who left for his native home on Friday to attend to family matters. With Akwana taking the reins, Leopards’ started the match on a high note but should blame themselves for not scoring open chances.

Chemelil Sugar coach Charles Odera was happy that his charges had managed to maintain and maul the Leopard. “This is a fantastic win for us. Playing away from home and managing a win is an amazing result. We started well and finished off AFC Leopards after Karani powered home the second. Karani was amazing today (Saturday) and all the players were amazing to watch.”

AFC Leopards’ Wanyonyi ruled out for the rest of season

The ex-Gor Mahia midfielder will not play any part in remaining matches after picking an injury during ‘Mashemeji derby’ that aborted last Sunday

AFC Leopards midfielder Timonah Wanyonyi will be out for the rest of the season, Goal can reveal.

The player has been ruled out for up to three months after picking an injury against arch-rivals Gor Mahia during the aborted derby last Sunday. Wanyonyi confirmed the sad news on Saturday and said he hopes to get good treatment for the injury.
"I did not know it was that serious but the truth is my doctors have told me, I’ll need to be out for three months before fully recovering. This means that I will not be available until next season.”
With Leopards experiencing financial difficulties, Wanyonyi is concerned whether he will get adequate treatment. "I have an appointment with the team doctor but I am not sure whether the club will afford to give me the right treatment for this injury."
