Earlier today, FORBES dropped their annual list of top 50 World’s Most Powerful Sports Agents 2015, and interestingly enough, 3 of the top 5 guys and 7 of the top 25 in the world are soccer guys.
The rankings that they’ve come up with were compiled by looking at each agents client rosters and contracts negotiated by each agent basketball, football, baseball, hockey, and soccer. Then, the total contract value under management for each sport was then multiplied by the maximum agent commission (or average where no maximum exists) as allowed by each respective players’ association.
The percentages for each of those, is: NFL (3%), NHL (4%), NBA (4%), MLB (5%), FIFA (10%).
Thus, agents are ranked in order of the maximum commissions obtainable from the negotiated contracts, instead of the total value of the contracts.
The list was headed by super agent Scott Boras who represents a ton of baseball players, but who cares about that, we care about soccer….
Leading the way for soccer guys, to no ones surprise is Jorge Mendes (ranked #2) of Gestifute International raking in a calculate “2015 Sports Agents Commissions” of $95.6 Million. His clients are headed by Cristiano Ronaldo, Falcao, James Rodriguez and Angel Di Maria.
The next soccer guy on the list, coming in at #4 overall is Jonathan Barnett of Stellar Group, with a “2015 Sports Agents Commissions” of $44 Million. His clients include Gareth Bale, Luke Shaw and Joe Hart.
Closing out the top 5 is Volker Struth of SportsTotal with a “2015 Sports Agents Commissions” number at $42.4 Million. His notable clients include Mario Götze and Toni Kroos.
The rest of the top soccer guys are #12 Jose Otin from Bahia Internacional – $29.3M, #13 Mino Raiola, of Mino Raiola – $28.6Mm, #21 Fernando Felicevich, of Fernando Felicevich – $22.8M, and #23 Thomas Kroth, Pro Profil $22.4M
