Indian Super League: Zico - Brazilians not in FC Goa because they are Brazilians

The Flamengo legend believes that he wanted three more players from last season to be a part of FC Goa this term…

FC Goa have as many as seven Brazilians in their squad for the second edition of the Indian Super League (ISL).
They have Elinton Andrade between the sticks followed by marquee signing Lucio and Luciano Sabrosa as centre-backs. In midfield, they have the likes of Leo Moura, Jonatan Lucca alongside Victor Simoes and Reinaldo in attack.
Coach Zico reasoned that the Brazilian players have made the cut on account of their ability and not because they hail from his country.
“The Brazilian players are not in the team only because they are Brazilians. They are all good players,” Zico explained.
From last season only Gregory Arnolin has been retained amongst the foreign signings and Zico opines that a lot of it was down to some of the other players being already on a contract.
FC Goa wanted the likes of Zohib Amiri, who suffered an injury during his stint with Dempo SC last season while Bruno Pinheiro and Jan Seda, who are on a long term contract with other clubs.
“There is very little we could do about players who were already contracted with other clubs. I wanted many of my foreign players to return but we could not get their services,” said Zico.
FC Goa kickstart their campaign on home soil when they face Delhi Dynamos on October 4, 2015.
