Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino has withdrawn from the Brazil squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers and has been replaced by 35-year old former Milan forward Ricardo Oliveira, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said on Thursday.
Firmino was substituted after landing awkwardly in the first half of Liverpool’s League Cup match against Carlisle at Anfield on Wednesday. Liverpool won after a penalty shootout.
“Ricardo Oliveira, the top goalscorer in the Brazilian league with 17 goals, was called up by Brazil coach Dunga,” the CBF said in a statement.
“The Santos striker will take the place of Liverpool striker Firmino, who was released because of injury.’
Brazil, who have never failed to qualify for the World Cup finals, face Chile in Santiago on 8 October and then return home to play Venezuela five days later.
Oliveira has six caps, made his debut for Brazil in 2004 and last played for Brazil in 2006 after the World Cup in Germany.
Arsenal Fans Are Only 7000 Signatures Away From Having Mike Dean’s Refereeing Debated in Parliament
The FA are facing a massive dilemma after Arsenal fans started a petition to have Mike Dean never referee another one of their matches, and, surprise surprise, it’s doing amazingly well.
In fact, the petition has a massive 93,000 signatories and if it garners another 7000, the government are required by law to have a debate about it in the Houses of Parliament.
Any official petition that reaches the 100,000 signature mark will automatically be discussed in the Commons.
So, it looks pretty likely that in the next few days the golden number will be reached, and we could be faced with the realistic prospect that Dean’s eligibility to take charge of Arsenal matches will be on David Cameron’s to-do list.
We told you earlier this week that Gunners supporters started the petition after Dean’s performance in their defeat to Chelsea last Saturday; Diego Costa went unpunished for a string of aggressive acts, whilst Gabriel was sent off for a light kick out in retaliation at the striker.
Since then, the FA have intervened and rescinded Gabriel’s red card, whilst slapping Costa with a three match ban of his own.

Jose Mourinho Launches Furious Post-Match Rant At FA Over Diego Costa Ban
Jose Mourinho has hit out at the FA after they banned his striker for three matches.
The Spanish international has been slapped with a suspension after appearing to slap Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny in Saturday’s 2-0 win for the Blues.
And after Wednesday night’s 4-1 League Cup win over Walsall, a seething Mourinho launched a tirade against the decision.
He said:
We know something which is that retaliation is allowed now. You can do it.I don’t comment (more) because if I bring examples and go deep and bring feelings into the discussion a big suspension for me will be waiting and I don’t want that. The team doesn’t need that.We lost an important player for three match and don’t need to lose their manager. So I prefer to keep calm and quiet.I don’t know if the squad can cope (with Costa’s ban). Every time you lose a player it’s not good for the team and it’s easier to accept an injury.An injury is part of the game and we have to be mentally ready for that. But this kind of situation goes much, much, much, much more deeply and the team is hurting, obviously.“I don’t play, score goals, tackle, recover balls for my team, but on the bench my communication is positive and after losing a player I don’t want the team to lose a manager as well. I prefer to be quiet.
Kevin De Bruyne: 'I do not care about Chelsea'
Kevin De Bruyne has revealed that he does not care where former club Chelsea finish in the Premier League this season, providing it is behind Manchester City.
The Belgian returned to England last month by joining the Sky Blues from Wolfsburg for a club-record £54m, having previously endured an indifferent spell at Stamford Bridge.
When asked if he would revel in helping the Citizens pipJose Mourinho's side to trophies this term, the playmaker told The Mirror: "I don't care as long as we win something.
"Hopefully we can win a few cups. I am happy we went to the next round of the Capital One Cup. We have a lot of players and we all want games.
"I had a four-year contract left and Wolfsburg didn't want to let me go. So it is different to when I had a one-year contract and Chelsea wanted me to leave. With the way the team is playing it is nice to come in to."
The 24-year-old has already scored twice for Manuel Pellegrini's side.
Neymar confirms Manchester United talks
Barcelona star Neymar has confirmed that he held discussions with Manchester United over a potential move during the summer.
Speculation was rife last month that the Red Devils were lining up a mega-money bid for the 23-year-old forward, whose buyout clause is reportedly £140m.
The Brazilian was quick to quash rumours at the time by insisting that he was happy at Camp Nou, but he now admits that negotiations took place.
"We had conversations, but there was nothing concrete," Neymar told ESPN. "I heard that there were offers, but none made it to me."
His contract with the Catalans expires in 2018.
