Arsenal are reportedly ready to try and pip Manchester United to the signature of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.
United boss Louis van Gaal has been heavily linked with a move for the 24-year-old Germany international midfielder, who looks set to leave Dortmund in the summer along with coach Jurgen Klopp as he heads into the final year of his contract.

However, after Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc rebuffed reports that they have agreed a deal with United over the weekend, it has opened the door to other clubs.

And German tabloid Bild claims Arsenal have joined Real and Atletico Madrid in a four-way fight for Gundogan's signature.

It is being reported that Dortmund would accept a fee in the region of £20million for the midfielder.

Fletcher suffers injury blow

Sunderland
Sunderland are set to be without Steven Fletcher for the rest of the season due to the striker's troublesome ankle injury.
The Scotland international missed Saturday's 1-1 draw against Stoke and the 28-year-old will now see a specialist to assess the full extent of the problem.

The former Wolves star has been struggling with ankle issues all season and this has limited the striker to 26 appearances, with a large proportion of these outings as a substitute.

The Scot is the joint-second top-scorer for the Black Cats this term with four goals but head coach Dick Advocaat will have to look at other attacking options for the final five games.

Sunderland dropped into the relegation zone on Saturday and they will be relying heavily on Jermain Defoe and Connor Wickham firing the club to safety.

The Black Cats welcome Southampton to the Stadium of Light this Saturday as they look to climb out of the bottom three in the Premier League.

Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen says the Europa League should not be a seen as a "disappointment."
There is a huge debate to whether playing in the sister tournament to the Champions League provides any real benefit for the teams involved, with many feeling the more fixtures and less recovery time impacts on the domestic campaign.

This has been seen in the past couple years with the Premier League duo of Newcastle United and, most recently, Everton being affected by the demands of the competition.

Spurs, who were knocked out of the tournament this year at the hands of Fiorentina, are in contention for a Europa League finish and Eriksen admits featuring in the competition is better than watching it from home.

"Is it a factor when the club are trying to sign players? I think so. It certainly was for me when I moved from Ajax two years ago," he told the Standard. "I don't know if it is for anyone else but I think so.

"I always want to play in Europe, to be seen on that stage or in the Premier League. It was a big chance and for me it was a nice thing when I came to Tottenham.

"I'd rather play in Europe than nothing. There are many games, of course, but if you have a big squad as we have, it shouldn't be a disappointment to play in Europe."
