- The Fire suffered their third consecutive defeat in league play last time out, a 2-0 defeat by the New England Revolution on June 13 at Gillette Stadium. The Fire did win their fourth-round U.S. Open Cup match in the interim, defeating the USL’s Louisville City 1-0 in extra time.
- United put an end to their two-game league losing skid, getting two late goals for a 2-1 come-from-behind win against the New England Revolution on Sunday afternoon at RFK Stadium.
- The teams are meeting for the second time this season. Jairo Arrieta scored a pair of goals and Conor Doyle added a third in a second-half burst as United exploded for a 3-1 win June 3 at RFK Stadium.
- The first meeting was a second consecutive win for United in the series, after going six matchups without a victory. The last previous United win in the series had come Aug. 22, 2012 at RFK Stadium, a 4-2 triumph. United last won at Toyota Park on Aug. 29, 2009, a 1-0 victory.
