Waters gets Rovers back in winning routine

Galway United 1 Shamrock Rovers 2

Shamrock Rovers got back on track as they made it ten in a row over Galway United at Eamonn Deacy Park.

Pat Fenlon's men had Luke Byrne to thank for their half-time lead but Enda Curran equalised only for Kieran 'Marty' Waters to strike the winner.
The visitors led 1-0 at half-time after an entertaining first half during which both sides had their chances.
It was a quiet opening but after 24 minutes Rovers' centre-half Tim Clancy went close and Brandon Miele also found the range but Conor Winn was equal to it.
Colm Horgan had a great chance to give Galway a surprise lead but he blazed his effort well wide of the target and the hosts were then punished as Rovers took the lead five minutes before the break after Mark Ludden gave away a free-kick on the edge of his area.
GLANCING
Stephen McPhail swung the ball in and Ryan Brennan's glancing header was latched onto by Byrne, who made no mistake.
Galway manager Tommy Dunne made two alterations at the break, sending in Kevin Garcia and Curran.
And it was Curran who made an instant impact, with his first touch a minute after the restart.
A long throw-in from Ludden went across the Rovers area and Shanahan provided the assist to set up Curran.
Galway looked rejuvenated, Curran and Keegan were combining well. And, when the American crossed the ball for Gary Shanahan, it looked impossible for him to miss but the Galway winger did just that.
Rovers weren't taking their chances, either, and Waters shot over in the 65th minute before emaking amends soon after. David Webster nodded the ball down and Waters made no mistake to win it, with Galway unsuccessful in trying to salvage their first draw.
Galway United - Winn; Ludden, Oji (Cantwell 81), Walsh, Horgan; Shanahan, Connolly, Byrne, O'Donovan (Garcia h-t); Keegan, Cunningham (Curran h-t).
Shamrock Rovers - Hyland; Madden, Webster, Clancy, Byrne; Miele (G Brennan 88), Cregg, McPhail (McCaffrey 81), McCabe; Waters, R Brennan.

Mulvenna stuns Bohs with late winner

Bohemians 0 Drogheda Utd 1

Tiarnan Mulvenna's late winner clinched Drogheda United victory over fifth-placed Bohemians at Dalymount Park.

With a minute left of a dull affair, the substitute rose unchallenged to meet Sean Thorton's corner and plant his header past a static Dean Delany.
Adam Evans thought he'd pinched a stoppage-time equaliser but the offside flag was raised when he finished from close range.
After recording wins over champions Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers in two of their previous three games, Bohemians were blunt in attack.
Of the few opportunities fashioned, Karl Moore should have done better with his header on 15 minutes. Evans picked him out at the back post with a pinpoint cross only for the winger to nod wide.
Derek Prendergast and Ishmail Akinade both missed second-half opportunities of breaking the deadlock for the Gypsies and they were duly punished by Johnny McDonnell's patient Drogs side through the only real chance of the night for the visitors.
Bohemians - Delany; A Murphy, Prendergast, Mulcahy, Fitzgerald; Lopes, Buckley; Moore (Kavanagh 78), Akinade, Evans; Kelly.
Drogheda Utd - Schlingermann; Daly, A Byrne, O'Reilly, Gorman; Thornton, Maher; Whelan (Walshe 46), Brady, Marks (Mulvenna 72); Duffy (Reilly 87).
Ref - D Tomney (Dublin).

Goals galore at Oriel as Dundalk hit Limerick for six

Dundalk 6 Limerick 2

League action returned with a bang to Oriel Park as Dundalk and Limerick played out an action packed eight-goal thriller.

It took the leaders just four minutes to get down to business. Stephen O'Donnell, making his first start since the title decider with Cork City on the final day of last season, played a neat one-two with Daryl Horgan before smashing the ball past his namesake, Conor, in the Limerick goal.
Martin Russell's side were looking to end a run of six straight defeats but it looked a lost cause when Brian Gartland rose to head home Darren Meenan's corner on the half-hour.
Then, on 35 minutes, Ronan Finn opened up the visitors' back four and David McMillan raced clear to score his first goal in eight league games.
McMillan made it 4-0 when he buried a drive past O'Donnell via the underside of the crossbar in the 54th minute before Limerick pulled one back when Gary Rogers badly misjudged the flight of Sean Harding's free-kick five minutes later.
Gartland restored the four-goal cushion when he flicked home another Meenan corner but more sloppy play at the back allowed the visitors in for a second goal in the 70th minute when Shane Duggan pounced on a poor header by Andy Boyle to prod the ball home.
Limerick were given a glimmer of hope five minutes later when they were awarded a penalty but Rogers redeemed himself when he stopped Shane Tracy's spot-kick.
The scoring was rounded off when Limerick sub Tony Whitehead deflected a Jake Kelly cross into his net in the final minute.
Dundalk - Rogers; Gannon, Gartland, Boyle, Massey; O'Donnell (Shields 60), Towell; Meenan, Finn, Horgan (Kelly 80); McMillan (Mountney 69).
Limerick - O'Donnell; Harding (Whitehead 86), Price, Williams, Tracy; Hughes (Mann 62), O'Conor, Duggan, Russell, Rainsford (Faherty 62); Clarke.
