New York City FC publish Pirlo profile on website, quickly delete it
Intentionally or unintentionally, New York City FC dropped a major hint Wednesday that Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo will sign with the team by publishing a player profile on NYCFC's website, FOX Sports reported.
The profile, which included a brief bio and a picture of Pirlo in NYCFC's pale blue kit, was quickly deleted but not before it was circulated on social media and reported in the New York Post among other sources.
Pirlo — who has a World Cup title (2006), three European Championship appearances, six Serie A titles, two Champions League crowns and two appearances at the Olympics on his resume — has been linked to the MLS franchise in recent months and attended NYCFC's New York derby match against the Red Bulls over the weekend.
FOX Sports noted that the profile clearly is a work in progress as it lists Pirlo's height at 5-0, nine inches shorter than his actual size.
MLS hasn't commented yet on Pirlo's possible arrival, but he would become NYCFC's third Designated Player, joining Spanish great David Villa and former Chelsea and Manchester City midfielder Frank Lampard.
