Pinho earns the Strikers a draw after a lengthy weather delay
The Carolina RailHawks and the Fort Lauderdale Strikers played to a 1-1 draw in the first NASL Wednesday Night Soccer match.
While the match was hit by a lengthy weather delay with 15 minutes to play, the visiting Strikers will have no complaints. Shortly after the sides returned to the pitch, Fort Lauderdale found its equalizer. PC slipped a ball through to Stefano Pinho, who chipped an on-rushing Akira Fitzgerald in the 77th minute. It was the Brazilian’s fifth goal in four consecutive matches.
Neil Hlavaty scored the opening goal in the 53rd minute. After a brilliant attacking move, Simone Bracalello laid the ball off to the veteran midfielder who fired past Strikers goalkeeper Josh Ford from 18 yards out.
RailHawks midfielder Blake Wagner's strike from distance rattled the crossbar in the 35th minute, while Tiyi Shipalane forced a good save from Ford earlier in the half.
Pinho may have had the best chance for the visiting Strikers in the opening 45 minutes, but he couldn't make a clean connection with the ball.
The match was the first in the Fall Season, and under returning head coach Günter Kronsteiner, for Fort Lauderdale. The RailHawks extended their unbeaten streak to six games.
