Cairo derby

The Cairo Derby, also known as the Egyptian Derby, is a football match between Egyptian clubs Al Ahly SC and Zamalek SC. It is a match between arguably the two most successful clubs in Egypt and Africa. Ahly and Zamalek were named by the Confederation of African Football "CAF" as The 1st and 2nd African Clubs of the 20th Century respectively. Both teams are located in Greater Cairo and their matches are considered the highlight of the football season with live broadcast to most of the Middle Eastern and North-African countries since the seventies. Usually the Derby is played twice each season with 2 matches in the Egyptian Premier League, but it is not uncommon to find the teams meeting each other in the Egypt Cup and in Africa's most prestigious club competition, theCAF Champions League.

live Ittihad v Zamalek | Egyptian Cup 2015

Live today Ittihad of Alexandria will face Zamalek SC in the Egyptian Cup 2015.

Zamalek have announced the contract extension of the team’s Manager Jesualdo Ferreira for another year at a monthly salary of $50,000.
Zamalek chairman Mortada Mansour confirmed that Ferreira was helpful during the contract extension negotiations.
“Negotiations with coach Ferreira to extend his stay with the team didn’t take very long, as reports say the pay out clause was reached quickly,” Mansour said during the conference.
“Ferreira’s contract pay out clause will be only three months from his salary,” the Zamalek chairman added.
Ferreira took over at Zamalek in February, becoming the fourth coach to take charge of the club last season following Hossam Hassan, Jaime Pacheco and caretaker manager Mohamed Salah.

Ahly key trio to miss Tunisia trip, Mabrouk eyes win

Ahly coach Fathi Mabrouk says Saturday's match with Esperance of Tunisia will be difficult for Ahly as Fathi, Gomaa and Gamal are out due to injuries

Ahly have announced a 20-man squad for Saturday's match with Esperance of Tunisia in the African Confederation Cup, with coach Fathi Mabrouk saying a win is possible despite missing three key players.
The Tunisian side will host the Cairo giants in the fifth round of the group stage of Africa's secondary club football competition.
Ahly will be missing Ahmed Fathi, Saleh Gomaa and Amr Gamal who weren't included in the squad due to suffering from different injuries.
"The Ahly squad will travel to Tunisia early on Wednesday ahead of the Esperance match," the club's official website announced.
Ahly became the first Egyptian side to win the Confederation Cup when they defeated Ivory Coast’s Sewe Sport in a two-legged final last year.
The Reds are now second in group A with seven points after being overtaken at the top by Tunisia's Etoile du Sahel, who have collected nine points over four matches.
"The Esperance match will not be an easy one. The appointment of new technical staff will boost the players' morale and they will also enjoy the support of their fans in the stands," Mabrouk told Ahly's official site on Tuesday.
"We studied the opponents well through the video of their last match in the Tunisia Cup. We won't play only for securing a spot in the semifinal, but to win and regain the group lead," the coach added.
Ahly are eyeing a new achievement in the Confederation Cup especially after recently missing out on their ninth successive league title to rivals Zamalek.
Ahly's travelling squad to Tunisia:
Goalkeepers: Sherif Ekramy, Ahmed Adel, Mossaad Awad
Defenders: Mohamed Naguib, Saad Samir, Sherif Hazem, Bassem Ali, Mohamed Hani, Sabri Rahil, Sherif Abdel-Fadil and Hussein El-Sayed
Midfielders: Hossam Ghaly, Hossam Ashour, Walid Soliman, Abdallah El-Said, Ramadan Sobhi and Moemen Zakareya
Strikers: Emad Meteb, John Antwi, Malick Evouna

Zamalek reach agreement to re-sign former star Shikabala: Club chairman

Shikabala is set to rejoin Egyptian champions and boyhood club Zamalek, and to play next season on loan with Ismaily

Zamalek have reached an agreement to re-sign forward Mahmoud 'Shikabala' Abdel-Razek from Sporting Lisbon and plan to loan out their former star next season, the Egyptian club's chairman revealed on Monday.
"We have agreed with Sporting officials to sign Shikabala on a permanent basis for a fee of $650,000," Zamalek president Mortada Mansour told Al-Hayah TV channel.
"We will send the player on loan to Egyptian club Ismaily for one season for $150,000," the lawyer added.
Zamalek, who recently ended an 11-year wait for an Egyptian league triumph, signed a host of new players to bolster their squad in the summer transfer window.
Shikabala, who joined Lisbon from Zamalek in January 2014, has been absent since September 2014 after a dispute with the Portuguese club.
Earlier this month, Zamalek offered $200,000 to sign the talented player on a one-season loan deal, though the offer was rejected by Lisbon.
On Saturday, the Cairo giants renewed their interest in Shikabala with a new bid to acquire his services permanently. "I hope that Shikabala will start a new era in his life," the outspoken Mansour added.
"Football is the player’s only job and he has no other choice but to secure his future or he will find himself playing in the streets.
"What happened to Shikabala is a harsh lesson and I hope he learned a lot from it."
The Aswan-born talent first starred for Zamalek in 1996, catching the eyes of many with his skills and also inspired the Whites to win the Egyptian League in 2004 and the Egypt Cup in 2008 and 2013.
Shikabala played for the Greek side PAOK between 2005 and 2007 and was loaned for Al-Wasl of UAE in the 2012-13 season.
The 29-year-old has made a few international appearances with Egypt throughout his career. He was part of the Pharaohs' squad that won the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, yet he played only a single game in the continental competition.
