Gor Mahia custodian Boniface Oluoch welcomes the return of fellow keeper Arnold Origi as Harambee Stars starts preps for Afcon tie against Zambia
Harambee Stars goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch has welcomed the inclusion of fellow competitor Arnold Origi in the provisional squad ahead of Afcon qualifiying match against Chipolopolo of Zambia.
Origi missed the match against Congo Brazzaville following confusion over his nationality, but was included by Bobby Williamson for the Zambia assignment after it was made clear he still has his Kenyan passport. In his absence, Oluoch has emerged as the top goalie in the country, starting recent matches for the national team.
“I am not scared that he has been included in the team, as a matter of fact, I am happy that he has been recalled in the squad. His presence will increase competition in the team which to me is a good thing. Origi has experience which will be beneficial to us, so his involvement will make us better in that department,” Oluoch told Goal.
“As a player in the national team, I think it is good the coach has involved the veterans, they have a lot still left to offer us, and I echo the move by the tactician. It will motivate us and push us to do better, and give our whole. We want a win against Zambia, and they will play a very important role in that.”

Why Gor Mahia officials must step aside

As Kenyan champions and with an almost fanatical support, K'Ogalo should be setting standards for others on how a team should be managed

That Gor Mahia are the best team in Kenyan Premier League is not in doubt.
Judging by their recent performances, the team has no equal in the Kenyan Premier League, and it will be a surprise if they don’t retain the league title this season.
However, the sad thing is that while players continue to give their best week in, week out, they are always let down by a management team that is short-sighted and lacks the idea on how a modern team ought to be run.
As Kenyan champions, and with a fanatical support, Gor Mahia should be setting the standards for other teams on how a club should be managed.
To date, this has not been the case, and the recent go-slow by players due to a delay in their salaries and alloweances being paid, is another indictment on the club’s management. During campaigns for elections, current officials promised heaven but unfortunately, they have not been able to deliver on any front, and it is now time for them to step aside.
It is sad that most of the projects started by this office have either failed or stalled, leaving the club in a position of hopelessness.
The much touted members' registration that was initiated by former Secretary General Chris Omondi fell by the wayside mere weeks after being initiated, and to date, no one knows the exact number of those who registered.
Gor Mahia's die-hard fans deserve so much more than what they've been getting from their management to date
Secondly, the club officials also launched a medical cover with a local bank, but this facility did not work either, putting players’ careers at risk of a premature end in case of a serious injury.
It is hard to think of anything the current office has done to make the club better than when they found it. Were it not for their passionate fans, Gor Mahia would not be where it is today, and so the office cannot take credit for the current great performance.
What truly can the club officials say they have contributed to the club's current standing?
Time has come for fans to demand more from their officials, and those who cannot deliver should take a walk and not allow the object of their desire to continue being run in this manner.
Whoever, takes over after this fiasco must find a way to turn the club into a private company with serious members contributing a certain amount of money annually. This will ensure that the club has a steady income even without a shirt sponsor.
It is also a high time the club got their own stadium to maximize on gate revenues. The current officials promised to increase the current ground's capacity, but have not even done anything remotely to show that they are serious about putting their money where their mouth is.
Gor Mahia fans will surely be hoping for—and doubtless deserve—better times ahead. It’s just hard to see their wishes being realised under the current management.
