KENYAN PREMIER LEAGUE - KPL - NEWS
Okumbi has not resigned - Munro
Mathare United chairman Bob Munro has refuted media reports that the club’s head coach Stanley Okumbi has resigned.
Munro says Okumbi had not submitted any letter of resignation and he does not expect any either.
“I confirm for the record that Stanley has not submitted a letter of resignation. Moreover, Stanley confirmed to me that he doesn’t intend to do so.”
“Stanley and the rest of our technical bench and players remain committed to winning the remaining seven matches and are still aiming for at least a top eight and preferably top five finish this year and to be contending for the KPL title next year.”
On Sunday, Okumbi had said he was walking away to save his reputation following his team’s defeat to Ushuru adding he was disappointed because his players were not implementing his tactics.
“I’m looking at a situation where I can save my reputation. I need players who can implement my tactics. I've therefore decided to rest from today. Maybe another coach will be able to handle the situation. Let me take a rest,” he said.
Okello wary of Timbe exit
David Okello has heard of the impending departure of head coach Sam Timbe from Sofapaka and says that the exit, if it happens will be a blow to the club.
Timbe has already been quoted as stating that he will leave Sofapaka once his deal expires in the coming weeks.
The Ugandan, a winner of the Cecafa Kagame Cup on a number of occasions and heavily experienced, will be missed by Sofapaka, especially as he has overseen a very lean period financially for the 2009 Kenyan Premier League champions.
Okello knows just how important Timbe has been to the club and expects the change, if it comes to be a blow to the club.
” He is a great coach and any club would miss him if he leaves,” he says.
“So far we have not been told officially and in any case, he has not acted like he is leaving. He is very settled and happy.”
” It would be tough to get a coach who is as good or better than him and so it will be a blow if he goes, so hopefully he does not.”
” I hope that he can continue and will be here to the end of the season. Stability is important and Sofapaka needs it,” he states.
Sofapaka are third in the KPL and are hoping to finish the season close to the top, a tall orde
Ayany content with Tusker draw
KCB assistant coach Elvis Ayany was delighted after his side held Tuskwer to a one all draw on Sunday at Nyayo National Stadium.
KCB took the lead through Crispinus Onyango in the 41st minute but were pegged back by Jockins Atudo’s goal four minutes later with the second half playing out barren and though Ayany feels his side should have won, he is just happy they did not lose.
The main undoing for KCB in the game, according to the coach, was a blunt forward line and he says the issue will be worked on ahead of the next match.
“It was a fair result but I think we should have bagged three points if we’d have buried our chances in the first half but we will take the result. We got a number of good chances where a player could just tap in and score.
“We have to work hard on that so that we can get it right in terms of finishing so that we can start burying these chances we create,” he said.
The bankers next take on Sony Sugar and Ayany knows it is time they got back to winning ways, if they are to stem the relegation fears that have highlighted their season.
“Against Sony Sugar it will be a different approach; we went to the game against Tusker on the back of conceding so many goals so we had to be cautious but against Sony we have to go for three points,” he added.
