New York City FC and Columbus Crew SC meet for the second time in 10 days in a crucial match for both clubs in the Eastern Conference playoff chase when they clash at Yankee Stadium on Saturday afternoon. NYCFC come into the match tied for sixth place in the East and the final playoff position, returning home following a 5-1 loss at the LA Galaxy last weekend. Crew SC are in third place, a point out of second, coming off a come-from-behind 3-2 win at home against Sporting Kansas City last Saturday.
  • David Villa scored his 15th goal of the season – his 13th goal over the last 14 games – but NYCFC allowed the most goals in a game in their short club history in a 5-1 defeat at the LA Galaxy on Sunday afternoon at StubHub Center.
  • The Crew SC extended their undefeated run to three games as Jack McInerney scored his first goal since joining the club, netting the late game-winner for a 3-2 win against Sporting Kansas City on Saturday evening.
  • The teams are meeting for the second time this season, the second time in a 10-day span. NYCFC’s Kwadwo Poku scored twice in a nine-minute span, canceling out goals from the Crew SC’s Kei Kamara and Cedrick Mabwati, leaving the teams in a 2-2 draw Aug. 19 at MAPFRE Stadium.
