Matchday four in the group stage of the CAF Champions League will be held this weekend, with Group B leaders USM Alger looking to book their place in the semifinals.
USMA currently top their pool with a full haul of nine points from three matches and a win over fellow Algerians MC El Eulma at the Messaoud Zeghar Stadium on Friday night will seal a place in the final four.
The ‘Red and Black’ beat El Eulma 2-1 in the previous round of fixtures thanks to early goals from Kaddour Beldjilali and Mohamed Seguer, and will be confident of completing a ‘double’ over their compatriots with a semi spot up for grabs.
The other Group B match will be played on Sunday night in Khartoum and is a straight fight for second place between Sudan’s Al Merreikh and reigning African champions ES Setif.
The teams are level on four points each (Al Merreikh have their noses ahead on goal difference) and played to a 1-1 draw in their first meeting in Setif last month.
Group A sees the four teams covered by just three points, with co-leaders Al Hilal and TP Mazembe (five points each) set to face Moghreb Tetouan (two points) and Smouha (three points) respectively.
The first match on Friday night sees Hilal host Tetouan in Omdurman (the teams drew 1-1 in Morocco last month), while the second on Saturday afternoon pits Mazembe against Smouha in Lubumbashi (the DRC side won 2-0 in Egypt in the last round of fixtures).
