Mazembe, Moghreb battle for semis

DRC giants TP Mazembe and Moroccan contenders Moghreb Tetouan will battle for a semifinal berth in the CAF Champions League when they meet in Lubumbashi on Saturday. The match will kick off at Stade TP Mazembe at 15:30 CAT.
The two sides are tied on eight points with Al Hilal after five games, with the Omdurman-based outfit facing Smouha SC in Alexandria at the same time.
Held to a goalless draw by Hilal in front of their home crowd in their campaign opener, before falling 1-0 in Khartoum in the reverse fixture, the ‘Ravens’ are trailing the Sudanese giants on head-to-head and only a win against the Moroccans will guarantee them qualification.
While a defeat to Moghreb Tetouan will automatically see them packing, a draw will also remain a very tricky result for Patrice Carteron’s protégés.
Indeed, should no winners emerge at TP Mazembe Stadium on Saturday, the four-time African champions will only book their spot for the semifinals if Smouha defeat Al Hilal, regardless of the nature of the draw, or if they play to a goalless draw and Al Hilal win in Egypt, as they enjoy a better general goal difference than Tetouan, whom they held 0-0 in Morocco in the reverse fixture.
Meanwhile, the Moroccans, who are enjoying the head-to-head advantage over Al Hilal, will bid farewell to the competition if they fall to Mazembe and the Sudanese don’t lose against Smouha, or if they play out a goalless draw with the Congolese and Hilal grab all three points in Alexandria.
