Netherlands will host Iceland at the Amsterdam ArenA in a Euro qualifying match on Thursday, the 3rd of September. Check the live TV and online streaming broadcast listings for Netherlands vs Iceland below.
Danny Blind will take charge of his first match as head coach of the Dutch national team as he faces group leaders Iceland. The team had performed poorly under former manager Guus Hiddink and have managed to notch just 10 points from the six games they have played so far but will be hoping they can surge their way to the top.
Netherlands currently third in the group face quite a challenge earning the automatic qualification spot but can still make it to the tournament as either the best third placed team or through the playoffs. The new manager has already shuffled things around demoting Robin Van Persie to the vice captain role and naming Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben as his new skipper.
"I have not made these choices based on their soccer skills," Blind said.
"In the guidance and coaching of team-mates, Van Persie and Robben are not inferior to each other.
"But they are two different personalities. And right now I need a leader to be someone with prominence in the field."
Arjeb Robben on the other hand has expressed his delight on the prospect of captaining the national side and has also stressed on the importance of the team to show mental strength.
"This is something beautiful, something special. It's an honour to be captain of the national team," the Bayern Munich star said. "It's something I can be proud of.
"But the focus now is these next two games and our qualification for the European Championship - only that is important.
"We have quality but we now have to show it. Qualification depends mainly on our mentality. We must not allow any more mistakes, then qualification is still in our hands."
The manager's son Daley Blind who plays his trade at Manchester United could make a start ahead of Jetro Willems who is injured. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Luuk de Jong and Robin Van Persie on the other hand will compete for a place upfront.
Iceland have been in impeccable form throughout the course of the qualification campaign having conceded just thrice and defeated Netherlands 2-0 in the reverse fixture. However they will be unable to make use of the services of Emil Hallfredsson who suffered a muscular injury.
