Daisuke Sato: To Make the Country Proud
The 1-5 loss against Uzbekistan may have dampened the mood for the Philippines but it served as the coming of age for defender Daisuke Sato.
Ever since he made his debut in April 2014, Sato has made the left back position his own with his ferocity in fighting for the ball.
Against a superiorly strong Uzbekistan side last Tuesday, Sato held his own and never gave up throughout the 90 minutes. Additionally, the defender played the match still wearing a soft cast on his right arm.
“I don’t want to lose any games especially against a team 49 places above us,” said the 20-year-old defender. “I always want to make the country proud.”
With five more games remaining in the Qualifiers, Sato looked at the loss as an over and done affair and has set his sights on the upcoming fixtures. The Azkals face DPR Korea on October 8th in Pyongyang and then Bahrain on October 13th in Manama.
“We need to set our minds on those games,” added Sato. “We just need to keep on going.”
Dooley hailed Sato’s performance as “absolutely outstanding.”
Azkals friendly vs Vietnam cancelled
The Philippine Azkals won’t be having much preparation before they face North Korea to continue itstheir 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifying journey.
Philippine Football Federation (PFF) general secretary Atty. Ed Gastanes announced that the international friendly between the Azkals and Vietnam, which was originally slated on October 3, has been cancelled.
Gastanes explained that the date fell outside of the international window, which starts on October 5.
Fifa has specific dates on its calendar where international friendlies can be played and clubs can release its players for national team duties.
Also, Global FC stalwarts like Misagh Bahadoran, Daisuke Sato, and Amani Aguinaldo are going to be unavailable for the supposed friendly as the 2014 United Football League champs will play Japanese side Albirex Niigata in the semifinals of the 2015 Singapore Cup.
The Azkals return to the pitch on October 8 against Group H leaders North Korea in Pyongyang.
