Looking back at Barclays Premier League history, we recall a famous win at St Mary's

Premierleague.com rifles through the annals of the Barclays Premier League to find significant events.

30 March 2013 - Southampton 2-1 Chelsea

Rickie Lambert scored the winner as Southampton made it back-to-back victories to pull further away from the lower reaches of the Barclays Premier League table.
Jay Rodriguez had given the Saints the lead but John Terry equalised before Lambert struck to inflict Chelsea’s third successive away BPL defeat and leave them hanging on to their place in the top four. It was the first time that Southampton had won successive league matches since the end of November.
Rodriguez struck in the 23rd minute with his second goal in successive matches after good work by Steven Davis and Lambert.
The lead only lasted 10 minutes before Terry, making his first BPL start since the start of February, headed home from a corner.  However Southampton regained the lead almost immediately when Lambert marked his 500th league appearance with a superb curling free-kick for his 14th Barclays Premier League goal of the season.
Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino was forced to substitute goalkeeper Artur Boruc at half-time after he complained of dizziness.  But his replacement Kelvin Davis was given little to do as Chelsea failed to threaten much after the break. The closest they came to a second equaliser was when Victor Moses hit a swerving shot that Davies had to tip over the bar.
Interim Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez did steady the ship and earn qualification for the following season’s UEFA Champions League as they finished third in the Barclays Premier League table.
Southampton followed two successive promotions by finishing 14th in their first BPL season for eight years.
