FC Steaua Bucureşti are savouring an unprecedented treble after adding the Romanian Cup to their league and League Cup wins following a 3-0 final defeat of FC Universitatea Cluj.

FC Steaua Bucureşti are celebrating a historic treble of domestic titles after downing FC Universitatea Cluj 3-0 in the Romanian Cup final to add to their championship and League Cup victories this season.

Steaua won the inaugural edition of the League Cup this year, but they had not clinched both the league and cup in the same campaign since 1996/97 as they prepared to take on Universitatea Cluj. Their opponents were unable to offer much resistance at Bucharest's National Arena, however, with man of the match Adrian Popa turning in a flat cross from Nicolae Stanciu after just nine minutes.
Universitatea Cluj were contesting their first final since winning the competition in 1964/65, but their evening worsened when Popa set up Raul Rusescu to make it 2-0 from close range shortly after the restart. Popa then buried the third himself with an excellent effort to put the result beyond doubt.
"I leave Steaua with my head held high," commented coach Constantin Gâlcă, who is set to be replaced by former Steaua player Mirel Rădoi despite his successes this term. "I express my gratitude to the boys, who had the strength to overcome all the hurdles and win these trophies. They're the ones who wrote history."
