Arata Izumi

AGE: 32POSITION: Central Midfielder
DOMESTIC APPEARANCES: 205DOMESTIC GOALS: 32
INTERNATIONAL APPEARANCES: 9INTERNATIONAL GOALS: 0
CLUB: Pune FCBASE PRICE: 40 Lakhs
Previous Teams: Albiirex Nigata (Singapore), Mitsubishi Mizushima (Japan Football League), East Bengal, Mahindra United
BIOGRAPHY
Arata Izumi broke through the glass ceiling of being the first foreign born player to play for the Blue Tigersunder Wim Koevermans in 2013. He featured for the national side for a total of nine times, after obtaining Indian citizenship.

Having started playing football since the age of nine, the Yamaguchi-born midfielder followed his elder brother to football games but was also adept in baseball and swimming. With options limited in the highly competitive set-up in Japan, he moved to Singapore where he featured for S-League club, Albiirex Nigata at the tender age of 21.

"I remember been an aggressive child. Stubborn about what I wanted. Seeing my elder brother play, I followed suit," said the accomplished midfielder.

There was no looking back, as after a brief spell at Japan Football League (JFL) club Mitsubishi Mizushima, Arata made his way to India where he signed for East Bengal in the National Football League (NFL) in 2006. Although he took time to set himself up, a stint at Mahindra United saw him really flourish in the newly christened I-League.

After the unfortunate disbandment of the Jeepmen, Arata followed coach Derrick Pereira to new boys Pune FC for whom he has been a loyal servant for six seasons and counting. Starting off as a Player of Indian Origin (PIO), he was thereafter categorized in the Asian quota. Thereafter, Arata was on the roster for theRed Lizards as an Indian player after he got his citizenship changed.
PROS
Arata, at the age of 32 might be nearing the twilight of his career but the experience of playing at the top division for nine seasons might make him a lucrative purchase for Indian Super League (ISL) teams who are looking for stability.

At his prime, Arata was renowned for his pace and quick bursts of acceleration and a deadly left foot, one of the best in business. With age, the midfielder has moulded himself as a playmaker who likes to thread fine passes and create chances for his team-mates. Even though he has lost the pace of yore, his late runs into the penalty box and his timing has not left him. Adding to that, he is supremely fit as he missed only a solitary match for Pune FC in the entire season last time around.

Moreover, at the price of 40 lakhs, teams won't be spoilt for choice for a midfielder who has the perfect mix of skill, experience and ability.
CONS
Pune FC had a torrid season last time around, and even though Arata cannot be singled out for blame, he was indeed a part of the struggling side. The former Mahindra man also can go missing, if things are not going well for his side and does have difficulty in intercepting play or jumping into tackles.

Zico: I am prepared to be a candidate for Fifa presidency

The former Japan coach says it will be difficult for him to return to the Indian Super League (ISL) if he is to participate in the upcoming elections

Brazil legend Arthur Antunes Coimbra, better known as Zico, feels that he is prepared to run for elections for Fifa presidency should the world football's governing body change its selection process.
The FC Goa manager, who arrived in India on Monday for the second season of the Indian Super League (ISL) with the Goan franchise, had announced that he intends to stand for the vacant position of the president after Sepp Blatter had announced that he would resign from his position at the next Fifa Extraordinary Congress, which is to be held in end 2015 or early next year.

"I think if FIFA change the way they select the candidate, I think I will go ahead. I feel I am prepared to be a candidate for the presidency and I am prepared on all the parameters if the elections happen in January. But I must say with apologies that if I have to participate in the elections, it will be difficult for me to come back to Goa next year," the 62-year-old opined.
Blatter stepped down from his post just four days after being re-elected for a fifth term and Zico is expected to stand against Prince Ali bin al-Hussein, while KNVB chief Michael van Praag could also re-enter the fight after stepping down last time.

Zico has renewed his contract as coach of FC Goa for the upcoming season of the ISL, after leading the side to the semi-finals last time around.

The Goan side have also managed to rope in World Cup winner Lucio as their marquee player for the second edition of the showpiece league.
Zico himself has scored 48 goals in 71 appearances for the Seleccao before embarking on a coaching career in Asia where he led Japan to the 2006 World Cup besides winning the Asian Cup in 2004.

He also enjoyed successful stints with Fenerbahce in Turkey, Bunyodkor in Uzbekistan and CSKA Moscow in Russia among others.

Indian Super League Player Auction Profiles: Anas E

dathodika

With the 2015 ISL Player Auction to be held on July 10, Goal profiles the candidates available for bidding, and this time it's Pune FC's Anas Edathodika...

Goal profiles every player made available in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2015 Player Auction. In this edition, we take a look at Anas Edathodika...

ANAS EDATHODIKA

AGE: 28POSITION: Centre Back
DOMESTIC APPEARANCES: 150+DOMESTIC GOALS: 1
INTERNATIONAL APPEARANCES: 0INTERNATIONAL GOALS: 0
CLUB: Pune FCBASE PRICE: 40 Lakhs
Previous Teams: Mumbai FC
BIOGRAPHY
Anas Edathodika was born in the northern Kerala district of Malappuram and took a keen interest in football from a very early age. He reportedly worked as an auto-rickshaw driver before his big break-through. It was at an inter-collegiate football event that Anas' talent was spotted by a former Indian international, Feroz Sherif, who urged the fledgling centre-back to attend a trial for the I-League second division side Mumbai FC. It was there that he was shortlisted and was offered a one-year deal with the Blue and Yellows
He played the entire campaign for the side from the commercial capital ensuring they were promoted in 2007-08 and thereby cemented his place in the side. He signed a contract that year which tied him down to Mumbai FC for the next three years.
In 2011, he revealed that he was signing for Mumbai's archrivals from Maharashtra, Pune FC, after making over 70 appearances for the Mumbai-based side. He has continued with the Red Lizards of the Deccan since, bagging 88 appearances in four years for them. He helped them finish second in the I-League in the 2012-13, under coach Derrick Pereira. Thereafter,  he was also voted as Pune FC's first Indian Player of The Year (POTY) after the 2012-13 season.
PROS
At a base price of Rs. 40 Lakhs, Anas represents seven seasons in the top flight with a record of significantly stable and sometimes match-winning performances in the rearguard for both his teams, an attribute prospective bidders will take note of, especially with him having played over 130 games throughout his career.

A tough tackler and with exceptional positional awareness and man-marking ability, Edathodika has the ability to nip an opposition's attack in the bud, before threat looms. He also has a burst of pace on him, enough to trouble and shackle the best of strikers. His partner in Pune FC's defense, Luciano Sobrosa, will attest to the defender's excellent communication skills and can also pose a threat at corners for the opposition, making excellent use of his 5'11" frame, becoming a hindrance for aerial challenging opponents as well.

Moreover, teams won't be spoilt for choice for a defender who has an optimum mix of experience and ability in the draft.
CONS
Pune FC's struggles last season came partly because Anas only played in 10 of their  fifth place finishing I-League campaign. Significant injury problems have hampered his progress, particularly towards the fag-end of the last season where he had ruptured a muscle in his leg, ruling him out for a significant amount of time. So for a player just returning from injury and with limited game time in the last few months, it might be a gamble. He seemed to be perturbed by bad form for parts of this season, which forced coach Karim Bencherifa to drop him after a couple of poor performances. All in all he doesn't head into this seaon in the best of confidence.
Also, with no international experience to add to his resume, unlike many of his fellow ISL auction compatriots, Anas' ability to handle pressure will be questioned.
