Liberian defender unlikely to play for Gor again

Liberian defender Dirk Glay will not play any other match for Gor Mahia this season after the club failed to get him a work permit we can reveal

Liberian defender Dirk Glay will not play any other match for Gor Mahia this season, Goal can exclusively reveal.

The club has opted not to renew the player’s work permit after coach Frank Nuttall indicated ‘he has no need for the Liberian anymore’.
Glay joined Gor Mahia from Thika United at the beginning of this season but has found playing time had to come by owing to various reasons. On Wednesday, Gor Mahia Deputy Secretary Genaral Ronald Ngala said the player is surplus to requirements at the club.
“We already have the required number of foreign players and as a result coach Nuttall has not shown interest in using him hence we did not see the need to get him a work permit,” he told Goal.
He added: ”We have allowed him to return home for national team duties and whether he will be able to play for Gor Mahia again this season because by the time he comes back, the league will almost be coming to an end.”
However, a source in the team said separately that the absence of Glay is a big miss for the team. “We have many injuries in the team and only a few players are available. He would have helped us a lot.”

Okumbi yet to return to Mathare United

Stanley Okumbi is yet to go back to his position as Mathare United coach despite a meeting with top officials of the club on Tuesday morning
Stanley Okumbi is yet to go back to his position as Mathare United coach despite a meeting with top officials of the club on Tuesday.
The coach revealed on Wednesday he wants to be sure of the seriousness of the players before making a decision on his continued relationship with the club. This happened even as reports emerged that Kariobangi Sharks who take part in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League are eying the coach.
Okumbi told Goal:”I met with United chairman Bob Munro but iam yet to decide on my fate until we have a talk with the players. The biggest problem I have had has never been with the management but rather the lack of seriousness by players. Once this is addressed then I can make up my mind.”
Okumbi announced his shock resignation on Sunday after the team lost 3-1 to Ushuru at Nyayo Stadium. However, the move was contested by his club and efforts have since been made to have him change his mind.
