Before 37,624 fans, their largest home crowd ever in the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League, the Seattle Sounders beat the Vancouver Whitecaps, 3-0, for the second time in five days, this time to clinch a berth in the quarterfinals.
Lamar Neagle scored twice and Nelson Valdez added the third to move the Sounders into the knockout phase for the third time in their history. Only five starters -- four on the Sounders and one on the Whitecaps -- also started Saturday when the Sounders won in Vancouver to clinch the Cascadia Cup and solidify its position for an MLS playoff berth.
Valdez and Chad Barrett combined to set up Neagle for his two goals, while the Paraguayan scored on a header off a free kick fromMarco Pappa. In his first CCL start, Valdez became the second player in Sounders' history to record a goal and two assists in a match.

A 1-1 tie was all the LA Galaxy needed at Central FC of Trinidad & Tobago in its third match to become the third MLS team along the Sounders and D.C. United to move into the quarterfinals. Real Salt Lake is in good shape to advance but cannot clinch before the final day of group play in October.
Forward Alan Gordon, who served as captain in Wednesday night’s match, scored in his third straight CCL match to even the score in the 82nd minute. Central FC had led since the second minute.
The Galaxy has seven points after three games and is three points ahead of Central FC, which has completed its schedule and four ahead of Guatemala's Comunicaciones, which hosts the Galaxy on Oct. 21.
