A-League Grand Final preview: Adelaide United, Western Sydney Wanderers desperate to erase past losses with title

Resultado de imagem para flag australia

Adelaide United and Western Sydney Wanderers are set to meet in the A-League Grand Final on Sunday in what looks like it will be a sold-out Adelaide Oval.
Both teams are hoping to snare their first Grand Final victory and will be desperate to go one better than their previous runners-up performances.

The Wanderers lost successive finals in 2013 and 2014 and United have lost to Melbourne Victory in 2007 and 2009.
These are two clubs who are desperate to lift that trophy on the final day of the season.
Both United and the Wanderers have had outstanding seasons and are the most deserving teams to be playing off in the grand final.
United have had one of the most incredible runs in A-League history after being dead last eight rounds into the season.
Enormous pressure was on coach of the year Guillermo Amor but he was able to turn things around and re-establish the all-for-one mentality first introduced by his predecessor Josep Gombau.
This was no more evident as when the stakes got higher towards the end of the season and the pressure was on every result.
They never faltered when all the others around them did to take the Premiers Plate for the first time in the clubs history.
The Wanderers have been in and around the top of the table for the entire season. Following a poor season last year coach Tony Popovic re-imagined the Wanderers' playing style and brought in high quality new playing personnel.
They became a possession-based team that would wear down opponents and subsequently were able to overrun them late in the game. There is no doubt after coming so close in seasons 2013 and 2014, this is one that Popovic really wants to win.

Attack crucial in likely low-scoring affair

Even though the three meetings between these two teams have ended up in two 0-0 draws and a 1-1 draw, the low scoring nature of their meetings makes it all the more important for the attacking players to stand up on the biggest stage of all. Both teams have got potential match winners up front.

The Wanderers have Brendon Santalab who is the super sub no more.
His goal-scoring form, work rate and never say die attitude has forced Popovic to give him a starting role in the run in to the finals and he has grabbed it with both hands.
United have their own attacking threat in Bruce Djite, who has overcome injuries this season and been the spiritual leader of the club he calls "his family".
United may be playing as a family but Djite's work rate, power and goals have helped propel this team to the top of the table.

The midfield battle

The midfield battle will also be key in the final as both sides like to control the ball and dictate the pace and tempo of the contest. I have seen the Wanderers boss the very best of teams away from home and they will need to do that again on the weekend.
The problem for them is how much that gruelling semi-final has taken out of them. It will be imperative that Mitch Nichols, who has been so important in their success this season, after coming off injured last week is able to compete for the duration of the match.
Mark Bridge and Romeo Castelen have both been outstanding for the Wanderers all season long and will need to have big games for their team to get over the line.
The United midfield is like a well-oiled machine and with so much off the ball movement they are almost impossible to contain for the entire 90 minutes. They have been getting better every week and seem to have timed their run to perfection.
Carrusca, Cirio, Mauk, and Isaias have gelled beautifully the longer the season has gone on and are the most impressive quartet in the competition.
Five out of the last seven winners have been the team that have taken out the Premiers Plate and I believe this year the trend will continue.
Even though both teams have had great form leading into the finals, United, with the home ground advantage and a less taxing semi-final will be too strong and will finally lift the trophy on their third attempt.

Bilbao have also won 9 times at home against Celta De Vigo, they have lost 3 times and drew 6 times.

Athletic Bilbao vs Celta Vigo: Prediction

This is a tough game to decide, being that both teams have won same number of games this season (16), but Celta Vigo’s recent form of 7 games unbeaten could be of advantage to them as they are in high spirit.

Juventus vs. Carpi-Serie A Match Preview and Prediction 1-May-2016

The newly crowned Serie A Champions Juventus entertain relegation candidates Carpi for the match week 36 fixture on Sunday afternoon. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 11:30 GMT, 1st May 2016.
Juventus might have won the title, but their head-coach Massimiliano Allegri will be looking to finish the season strong by winning the remaining three fixtures. The Old Lady made a tremendous run in the league by taking 73 points from a possible 75 in 25 matches and will be looking to extend that lead on Sunday.
Carpi grabbed a vital 1-0 home win against Empoli last weekend, which extended their unbeaten run to three matches. Currently 17th in the league, just 3 points clear off the relegation zone, the Biancorossi can hardly relax as both Palermo and Frosinone are hoping to take advantage of their slip on Sunday’s fixture.

Form Guide

Juventus are unbeaten in the last 25 matches in Italian Serie A. Their last defeat was on October 2015 at Sassuolo and since won 24 out of the 25 matches. The Old Lady are also on a 9 match winning streak in the league.
Carpi are unbeaten in their last three with 2 wins and a draw. They have also won 4 of their last 7 fixtures and lost twice, which helped them take a valuable 13 points from a possible 21 to stay alive in the relegation battle.
Carpi had only lost once in their last 5 away games, with 3 draws and a win. They have also failed to score in 5 of their last 6 away games.

Juventus vs Carpi: Head-to-Head Stats

The first leg Serie A clash on December 2015 at Stadio Alberto Braglia was their first ever competitive fixture, which Juve won by 3-2.
Carpi took the lead inside 15 minutes by a Marco Borriello goals, but two first half goals from Mario Mandzukic and a second half strike by Paul Pogba put 3-1 up. A Leonardo Bonucci in the injury time complete the scoreline in otherwise a comfortable evening for the men in Black and White stripes.

Juventus: Team News

Giorgio Chiellini, Martin Caceres and Claudio Marchisio and Neto are all injured for Juventus. Despite the absentees, head coach Allegri is expected to go with the strongest possible line-up as he look to extend the winning streak in the league.

Juventus: Predicted Starting Line-up (3-5-2)

Buffon;
Barzagli, Bonucci, Rugani;
Cuadrado, Khedira, Lemina, Pogba, Evra;
Mandzukic, Dybala.

Carpi: Team News

Eddy Gnahore and Zeljko Brkic are injured for Carpi, while Lorenzo Lollo and Raffaele Bianco are suspended.
The key absence may likely force Fabrizio Castori to revert to a 3-5-1-1 formation on Sunday.

Carpi: Predicted Starting Line-up (3-5-1-1)

Belec;
Poli, Romagnoli, Gagliolo;
Letizia, Pasciuti, Crimi, Cofie, Guzman;
Di Gaudio;
Mbakogu.

Juventus vs Carpi: Prediction

Juventus will be much more relaxed as they already know that the Serie A title is theirs. Carpi on the other hand, will be desperate to avoid a defeat and look forward to next fixtures to survive in the relegation battle.
Juventus haven’t conceded at home in the last 9 Seire A fixtures and they can score a-plenty. Carpi have an extremely poor scoring record away from home, but they have played out three 0-0 draws in their last 5 away matches. This also means they will be looking to sit deep and frustrate the hosts.
Juventus are heavy favourites here, but I do not think that this will be easy for them. My score prediction for this match is 1-0 win for Juventus.

Swansea vs Liverpool: Preview and Prediction

Swansea vs Liverpool-EPL Match Kick-Off Time 1-May-2016

Liverpool look to bounce back with a win after the disappointing loss to Villarreal in the Europe League fixture when they take on Swansea at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds have now failed to win their last two matches in all competitions and partly this is due to the injury crisis. Currently 7th in the league table with 34 matches played, the Kops have minimal chance of finishing inside European qualification spot, but Klopp will be wanting his team to finish strong and make the case for the next season.
Swansea are coming on the back of consecutive league defeats and they are 15th in the league with 40 points from 35 matches. They can’t relax as yet, but a win here could ensure their safety from relegation and extend their stay in English Premier League for another season.

Form Comparison

  • Swansea tasted defeat in their last two matches, but were unbeaten in the previous three with 2 wins and a draw.
  • The Swans have failed to score a goal in their last two matches and conceded a heavy 7 goals.
  • Swansea are on a three match winning run at home and all the wins had come by the same 1-0 score line.
  • Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 5 Premier League fixtures, with 3 wins and 2 draws.
  • The Reds have scored 12 goals from their last 4 matches and conceded just 4.
  • Liverpool have won 3 of their last 4 away matches, a defeat during the period came at Southampton by 3-2.
  • Liverpool have scored 2 goals in each of their last three away games.

Swansea: Team News

Francesco Guidolin will have to do without the services of Leroy Fer and Alberto Paloschi, who are both out with hamstring injuries.
The back-to-back may force the Italian tactician to make a number of changes and the likes of Jefferson Montero, Modou Barrow and Ki Sung-yueng may return to the starting line-up.

Swansea: Predicted Starting Line-up (4-2-3-1)

Fabianski,
Taylor, Williams, Fernandez, Rangel,
Cork, Britton,
Barrow, Sigurdsson, Montero,
Ayew.

Liverpool: Team News

Heavy rotation is expected from Jurgen Klopp as he look to rest a number of first team players for the second leg Europa League clash on Thursday.
Mamadou Sakho is carrying a ban, while 6 players including Jordan Henderson, Emre Can and Divock Origi are injured.
Both Martin Skrtel and Christian Benteke are expected to start here and the youngsters like Brad Smith, Connor Randall, Kevin Stewart, Cameron Brannagan and Sheyi Ojo could all feature on Sunday.

Liverpool: Predicted Starting Line-up (4-2-3-1)

Mignolet,
Smith, Toure, Skrtel, Randall,
Stewart, Milner,
Lallana, Ibe, Ojo,
Benteke.

Swansea vs Liverpool: Head-to-Head Stats

Swansea are on a 5 match losing streak against Liverpool in Premier League encounter. They have also failed to win in of the last 8 encounters with the Reds. Liverpool have won in 6 of those matches, while 2 were draws.
Swansea’s last win against Liverpool was in the Capital One Cup encounter at Anfield in November 2012.
While playing away at Swansea, the Reds are unbeaten in the last three with a win and two draws. Swansea’s last home win over Liverpool was in the Premier League clash on May 2012.

Swansea vs Liverpool: Prediction

Liverpool are expected to take this fixture lightly and field a number of fringe players. And they could well play this match into the hands of the hosts who are desperate for a win to ensure their stay in Premier League beyond doubt.
My Prediction for this match is a 2-1 win for Swansea, but one must keep an eye on the starting line-ups before betting on this match.
