TEAM RATINGS
PSG
- 16A. AreolaWas lucky not to be beaten on three occasions when efforts hit the woodwork instead of finding the back of the net, and the goalkeeper didn't look entirely comfortable when trying to deal with high balls into the box.
- 20L. KurzawaLargely performed well when breaking down the left flank on marauding runs, but at the other end he was sometimes guilty of leaving Lang in too much space.
- 19S. AurierAlways looked to get forward down the right wing, and he often sent dangerous crosses into the penalty area that caused problems for the Basel back line.
- 5MarquinhosThe Brazilian made one slight error in the first half, but apart from that he rarely put a foot wrong and did well to help his side pick up a clean sheet.
- 2Thiago SilvaLooked slightly nervous throughout the game, as he sometimes struggled to deal with the strength of Doumbia and was too often caught in possession in dangerous positions.
- 6M. VerrattiPut in a good performance in the middle of the pitch, where he was smart with his passing and got back to defend strongly when needed.
- 14B. MatuidiPerformed well all over the park, where he was smart with his passing and vision, and he made his side’s first goal possible with a smart low cross into the middle of the penalty area.
- 7LucasWasn’t involved in the game as much as he would have liked in the first half, but he looked much sharper after the break and was rewarded for his efforts with a well-taken goal for PSG’s second.
- 11Á. di MaríaPopped up in the right place at the right time to fire PSG into the lead just before half-time, and from then onwards he looked bright whenever he was in possession.
- 25A. RabiotPulled the strings in advanced areas, where he sprayed several excellent passes all over the pitch and played an important role in all of PSG's best attacking moves.
- 9E. CavaniAfter a disappointing first half, the Uruguayan looked slightly better after the break and immediately went close to scoring with a glancing header, and he was finally able to find a goal late on after coolly dispatching a last-minute penalty.
Basel
- 1T. VaclíkThe Czech goalkeeper was unlucky to be beaten three times, as he pulled off a good performance in which he made several smart saves to keep his side in the game.
- 17M. SuchýThe centre-back largely performed well to deal with the pressure being put on him by the PSG front line, but he undid all of his good work with an awful attempted clearance that gifted Lucas with his side’s second goal of the night.
- 5M. LangWent close to scoring early on and looked good when attacking down the right wing, but at the other end he was sometimes caught out defensively, resulting in him giving away a cheap penalty in injury time.
- 23É. ÁlvarezLike Suchy, the Colombian enjoyed several good moments in what was largely a good defensive performance, but as he started to tire in the second half he began to make poor unforced errors, several of which caused his side a lot of problems.
- 3A. TraoreWas involved in a fierce battle with Aurier, and it's one that he largely lost, although the left-back did pull off a few good tackles in the first half.
- 10M. DelgadoImpressed in the first half and caused the home side some problems with several great crosses, but he was unable to make much of an impact after the break and was eventually replaced.
- 11R. SteffenThe winger enjoyed some good moments when pushing forward, but inside his own half of the pitch he was defensively suspect and failed to track the run of Matuidi in the build-up to PSG’s opening goal.
- 34T. XhakaLargely performed well at the base of the Basel midfield, where he often closed off the space available in front of his back line, but on a couple of occasions he was caught in possession at the worst possible moment.
- 8B. Bjarnasonhe Icelander was one of Basel’s standout performers. Defended diligently when required before breaking away on several good counter-attacking runs, all of which caused problems for the home side.
- 6G. Serey DieDefended well in the first half but found life more difficult after the break as PSG increased the pressure, resulting in him eventually being replaced by Janko.
- 88S. DoumbiaThe Ivorian made a nuisance of himself inside the PSG penalty area, and he was unlucky not to pick up a goal of his own after hitting the crossbar with a close-range headed effort.
Substitutes
- 4G. KrychowiakFeatured for the final 10 minutes of the game and put in a good performance, although he was rarely put under much pressure.
- 21H. Ben ArfaTried his best to get himself about during his time on the pitch but ended up sending his only chance on goal flying well over the top of the crossbar.
- 22JeséWas presented with a great opportunity to wrap up the win for his side but sent a tame effort straight at Vaclik.
Substitutes
- 7L. ZuffiCame on for the final 20 minutes and put in a decent performance at both ends of the pitch.
- 21M. JankoWas presented with a couple of half-chances during his 12-minute cameo, but the striker was unable to make much of an impact as PSG dug in to hold on to their clean sheet.
