The Marseille venue will show France vs Romania on big screens then stage a concert while Hodgson's men try to sleep ahead of Saturday clash with Russia
Roy Hodgson and his players are facing a sleepless night in Marseille - after Englandwere put in a hotel next to a Euro 2016 fan zone.
Supporters will gather for a giant open-air party in front of big screens to watch host nation France in their opening game against Romania on Friday night - in a park that can hold up to 80,000 people.
And even after the game finishes, at around 11pm local time, the park is then staging a concert.
England are going to be staying yards away at the luxury Golden Tulip Villa Massalia, and the Football Association are acutely aware of the problem and have major concerns.
It is also in the hub of the security threat, because Marseille is on red-alert over safety and terrorism fears .
European football’s governing body, UEFA, have allocated the hotels for both England and Saturday's opponents, Russia.
The Russians are staying at the Marseille Palm Beach hotel, which is also near the fan zone but further away than England's.
England abandoned plans to stay at Copacabana in Rio during the 2014 World Cup because it was too near a fan zone there, and they were worried about the risk of sleepless nights.
This time, the party could go on until the early hours because it is the opening night of the whole tournament.
The fan zone is officially open until 1am, but the noise and party could go on much later.
An FA spokesman said: “UEFA allocate the hotels for both teams in the host city.”
England will be particularly annoyed as they have taken great steps to get their preparations right, even changing their pre-match training routine.
Manager Hodgson has decided to have his final pre-match training session at their base in Chantilly, near Paris, on Friday morning before flying to Marseille on the south coast.
The coaching staff believe they will have a better session at their own base rather than on the stadium pitch the night before the game - a practice generally intended to help the teams to get used to the playing surface they will use next day.
But England keeper Joe Hart said: “It allows us a little more time because when we train the night before in a stadium we are on a countdown, when you need to be on and when you need to be off.
“We are very comfortable with our base, we have got a lovely training ground, it is local and easy to get to for us and we can travel and rest and be prepared for the game.”
