Player Ratings: Toronto FC vs. New York City FC

Assessing each individual’s performance in Toronto FC’s latest draw with New York City FC.

A red-hot New York City FC team came in to BMO Field looking to extend their three-game win streak, but instead could only muster up a goal and a point. All things considered, it wasn’t a bad performance by Toronto FC, and it was encouraging to see the backline return to form after the Whitecaps game.
While they didn’t bounce back and secure a win like some may have hoped after their loss to Vancouver, holding a team like New York City at bay is always a good thing. The draw also keeps us within striking range of the Eastern Conference’s top spot, as TFC are only two points back of NYC with a game in hand.
That being said, some of the injuries that the team has amassed might make that difficult. This game saw two new faces in the starting lineup as a direct result of injuries, in Jay Chapman and Mo Babouli. The game could’ve easily been won had Osorio or Altidore been in the lineup, but that shouldn’t take away from their performance. If anything, they proved that this team’s future is bright.
Overall, this game left a mixed bag in terms of what to take away. There were as many positives from this game as there were negatives, and hopefully they will be able to build on the positive aspects heading into their next match against Columbus.
