Manchester United target Gabriel Jesus has refused to comment on his contract clauses, which reportedly give the Red Devils a discount to take the player from Palmeiras. The wonderkid has admitted he knew the list of clubs who have the preference over him, but keeps his silence about it.
Last month, it was reported that Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG and Juventus would all be included in a clause which allows them to buy Gabriel for only €24m. The player, as the story went, had the agreement inserted so he could join any one of those clubs, presumably his favoured destinations, for a reduced fee.
For all the other clubs, his release clause would be €30m. According to O Estado de São Paulo, Manchester United have already bid for him.
In an interview with Goal Brasil, Gabriel didn’t want to comment on the clause, but made it clear he knows the details: "It's out of the question to talk about it, it's complicated. The contract goes through me, I decide that, but I will not be able to explain it right. Otherwise we will stay here until tomorrow and I'll still be explaining.”
When asked if he has any preference between these clubs, Gabriel didn’t want to comment either: "I have a preference at Palmeiras. I have to work to be here. If one day it happens that I go to these clubs or even to others who are big, I will be very happy."
Despite Gabriel’s talk of commitment to Palmeiras, the Brazilian media have been saying that he’s leaving this summer. It’s more likely that the transfer happens after the Olympics, since the Brazilian club expect to get more money after the striker features in such an important international tournament. However, if some of these clubs meet the release clause before that, Palmeiras obviously can’t do anything to keep him.
Gabriel Jesus, who has scored 18 goals in 55 appearances for Palmeiras, is not dazzled by talks of a move to Europe.
Brazilian teenage footballer Gabriel Jesus has played down reports of a possible move to Europe this summer after his latest eye-catching display for Palmeiras.
The 19-year-old on Saturday scored two goals and set up another as the Sao Paulo club defeatedAtletico Paranaense 4-0 on the opening weekend of the Brazilian Serie A season, reports Xinhua.
Gabriel, who has been linked to Manchester United and Atletico Madrid, is understood to have a 30 million euro buy-out clause in his contract.
"I'm not dazzled by all the talk about Europe," Gabriel told reporters after the match. "I'm focused on Palmeiras."
Gabriel has now scored 18 goals from 55 appearances for Palmeiras and, barring injury, he seems certain to be included in Brazil's squad for the Olympic Games in August.
Palmeiras head coach Cuca said he hoped Gabriel would not leave in Europe's summer transfer window.
"He's going to attract interest, that's obvious," Cuca said. "But he is happy here and I'm hopeful he will stay at least until the end of the year."
In other Brazilian Serie A matches on Saturday, Flamengo overcame Sport 1-0 and Atletico Mineiro defeated Santos 1-0.
