TORONTO FC vs. COLUMBUS CREW SC
BMO FIELD, Toronto
MAY 21, 2016 (WEEK 12, MLS GAME #114)
5 pm ET (MLS LIVE, SN360, TWCSC-OH, CW Columbus)
Heineken Rivalry Week features the first Trillium Cup meeting of the season, as Toronto FC play host to Columbus Crew SC on Saturday afternoon at BMO Field. The game is the last of a four-game homestand for Toronto FC, their first at BMO Field this season, coming off a 1-1 draw with New York City FC at midweek. Crew SC hit the road off of back-to-back draws on their home ground, the last a 1-1 draw with the Colorado Rapids last weekend in Columbus.
  • The Trillium Cup match ends a run of four consecutive games at BMO Field for TFC, after opening the season with an eight-game road swing while the stadium underwent a major expansion. The homestand started with a 1-0 win against FC Dallas, followed by a 4-3 defeat by Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
  • Crew SC saw their winless run extended to three games with a second consecutive draw, reaching a 1-1 result with the Colorado Rapids on Saturday evening at Mapfre Stadium. Crew SC are unbeaten in their last four home games.
  • The teams met three times a season ago, with Crew SC winning twice (and one draw) – victorious once on each ground. Crew SC won 2-0 on March 14 at Mapfre Stadium, their first home win in the series since 2013. TFC have won just three matches all-time in Columbus – two of those coming in 2014.
  • Crew SC then won in the season series finale, a 2-0 win Oct. 17 at BMO Field, ending a two-game home winning streak for TFC in the series. Those two victories were TFC’s first ever at BMO Field in the series, after three losses and five draws over the first six-plus seasons.
