Four amateur teams knocked off USL teams in second-round action in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup: Lansdowne Bhoys FC from New York's Cosmopolitan League, the PDL's new Florida entrant, The Villages SC, PDL power Des Moines Menace, which notched its seventh Open Cup win over a pro team, and the LA Wolves, who will face rival La Maquina from Southern California's UPSL in the third round.
LANSDOWNE BOYS FC.The winless Riverhounds' troubles continued when they lost to Lansdowne Bhoys FC, 2-0, on Craig Purcell's free kick in the 10th minute and fellow Irishman James Kavanagh's late insurance goal. The Hounds extended their winless streak to eight games with the defeat. Their best chance came when Corey Hertzog's header bounced off the crossbar in the 55th minute. The Yonkers-based Boys will play the defending USL champion Rochester Rhinos in the third round.

THE VILLAGES SC.The Villages SC twice took the lead on goals by center forward Carlos Araujo only for the Charleston Battery to tie the score, 2-2. In the shootout, goalkeeper Paulo Pita, who had a great game, saved Charleston’s first two penalties en route to a 4-2 win that moves the first-year PDL team into the third round against the NASL's Jacksonville Armada.

DES MOINES MENACE.Sean Hoek, who returned after taking a year off, broke a scoreless draw in the 68th minute, and Elvir Ibisevicadded on an insurance goal in the 81st minute as the Menace beat the short-handed Tulsa Roughnecks, 2-0, at Valley Stadium. The win sets up another home match against a USL team, San Antonio FC.
L.A. WOLVES SC. The Wolves were only in the second round because the Ventura County Fusion forfeited their first-round match for using an ineligible player. Miguel Sanchez gave them the lead in the 72nd minute only for the Blues to strike back five minutes later through Grady Howe. The Wolves came back from 2-1 down in the shootout to win 4-2. They'll head to Westminster High School for the third round against La Machina. The Wolves, La Machina and Lansdowne Bhoys FC are the only Open Division clubs still alive.
