USL Preview: Portland Timbers 2 vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2

WFC2 visits Providence Park aiming to continue undefeated start


PORTLAND, Ore. – Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 visits the Portland Timbers 2 for a Cascadia showdown on Friday night at Providence Park looking to continue its undefeated start, and build a lead at the top of the USL’s Western Conference. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT.

Portland Timbers 2 news and notes
  • Current record: 3-5-1, 10 points
  • T2 fell in its last outing, as Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC took a 1-0 victory at Switchbacks Stadium in the USL Game of the Week on ESPN3 last Friday.
  • The defeat snapped a three-game undefeated streak for Portland, which had taken victories against Tulsa and Real Monarchs SLC during that run.
  • Despite the defeat, defender Michael Gallagher was named to the USL Team of the Week on Tuesday for a strong display against the Switchbacks.
  • Friday’s game is the first of two in a row at Providence Park for T2, which will play host to Portland’s game with Seattle Sounders FC 2 next Thursday.
Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 news and notes
  • Current record: 5-0-2, 17 points
  • WFC2 moved to the top of the Western Conference standings last Sunday as it took a 4-3 win against the LA Galaxy II at Thunderbird Stadium.
  • Kyle Greig scored a pair of goals, and Alphonso Davies became the youngest goal-scorer in USL history, WFC2 remained the lone undefeated team in the USL.
  • Both Greig and Davies were named to the USL Team of the Week on Tuesday for their efforts.
  • Greig leads WFC2 with seven goals, tied for second in the USL, while Kadin Chung and Erik Hurtado have recorded two assists apiece.
