Despite finishing in an impressive 8th place last season, Zwolle have suffered a horrific start to the 2016/17 campaign. Failing to claim a victory in their opening six league matches, leaving them with just two points going into their clash with Ajax, Ron Jans’ side find themselves languishing in last place. The struggling club will be looking to their strikers to put some points on the board, but having already tried four different options up front to no avail, goals seem somewhat unlikely against one of the league’s strongest sides. Having already amassed a goal difference of -10, conceding 12 and scoring just two, Zwolle will be preparing themselves for another defeat in Saturday’s game.

Prediction

This match can be described as nothing short of a mismatch. Zwolle have struggled since returning to action in August and given the poor results suffered against some of the bigger sides in the competition already this season, particularly their 3-0 defeat to Sparta Rotterdam and 4-0 loss against PSV Eindhoven, they could be in for another difficult evening on Saturday.

A 4-1 victory over fourth tier side DVS’33 in the KNVB Cup last time out will have restored some much needed confidence, but their opponents were a long way off of the quality at Peter Bosz’s disposal.

The timing is unfortunate for Zwolle, given that Ajax returned to their best in their cup clash with Willem II, recording a 5-0 result over their Eredivisie rivals thanks to a brilliant attacking display. Ajax will be confident of keeping up their goalscoring form against a side struggling to keep them out and will surely return to Amsterdam with three more points added to their total.
