Uruguay vs Paraguay-Match Preview-Prediction-World Cup Qualifier 2018 South America

Uruguay vs Paraguay
South America – 2018 World Cup Qualifier
Date: Wednesday; 7 September 2016
Kick-off: 00:00 UK
Venue: Estadio Centenario (Montevideo).
A narrow 1-0 defeat to Argentina has dismantled Uruguay from the top of the South American World Cup qualifying table. Lionel Messi scored the only goal of the game in the 43rd minute. The Los Charruas were handed a chance to come back into the game as Paulo Dybala was sent off just before the half-time whistle. But they failed to take advantage of the numerical advantage on pitch. They will start the eighth round fixture against Paraguay sitting second in the table. While Paraguay with their surprise 2-1 win at home over Chile stay 6th in the table, just 2 points behind league leaders Argentina.

Uruguay vs Paraguay: Head-to-head

The previous three meeting between Paraguay and Uruguay were 1-1 draws, with the latest happening in the group stage match of Copa America 2015 in Chile. And the other two during the two legged meeting for 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Uruguay are unbeaten in their last World Cup qualifier home games against Paraguay with two wins and a draw.
While Paraguay’s last win against Uruguay can be dated back to October 2007, which now stay at a five match win-less run.

Uruguay vs Paraguay: Prediction

Paraguay are a team on confidence as they are unbeaten in their last four qualifying games with 2 wins and 2 draws. The draws against Ecuador away from home and Brazil at home are significant results that can be added to their recent home win against Chile.
Uruguay are also not that bad as they are have a strong record while playing in front of their home crowds. Their two defeats in the qualifier this time has come away from home. While they won in each of their three home games keeping clean sheets.
Also the Los Charruas haven’t lost a home game in the qualifiers since October 2009. This makes them slight favourites for this fixture against Paraguay. The home sie could edge a win here, but in all honesty I anticipate another 1-1 draw at stadium on Tuesday.
