TOKYO (AP) — Japan scored four goals in the second half Tuesday to beat Uzbekistan 5-1 and win its second straight game under coach Vahid Halilhodzic.
Toshihiro Aoyama put the hosts ahead with a shot from 30 meters in the seventh minute.
In the second half, Shinji Okazaki doubled the advantage with a header 10 minutes after the break. Gaku Shibasaki then made it 3-0 for Japan in the 79th before Islom Tuhtahujaev pulled one back for the visitors three minutes later. Takashi Usami and Kenga Kawamata added late goals to complete the rout.
Halilhodzic, who guided Algeria to the last 16 of the World Cup last year, took over from Javier Aguirre after the Mexican was fired last month amid a match-fixing scandal.
Japan beat Tunisia 2-0 in Halilhodzic's debut on Friday.
