Newcastle’s French winger Florian Thauvin as recently as last weekend appeared all set to join Serie A side Lazio on loan with a compulsory buy clause subject to a certain amount of matches played worth €11m.
However, as both Calciomercato and Sky Italia have today reported, the player has once again shelved Lazio’s advances as he continues to wait for Marseille.
The reasoning behind this? His girlfriend is understood told him they should return to Provence where their romance all began and she is being particularly insistent.
The player it must be said also favours a move to Marseille in his own right, but might have accepted a move to Lazio on his own accord.
This back and forth has gone on for several weeks and while the possibility that Thauvin joins Lazio is still somewhat on the table, the Italian side have just about had enough and are looking elsewhere.
Marseille continue to discuss a possible loan move with an option to buy for Florian Thauvin, but cannot afford the €11m compulsory buy clause that Newcastle are demanding.
Talks continue.
