CNaPS'
Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier believes his team’s CAF Champions League opponents, CNaPS of Madagascar stood a better chance of advancing to the first round of the competition until they opted for time wasting antics while leading 3 – 1 in the return leg on Sunday 1 March.
Gor Mahia’s George Odhiambo netted a late goal that saw the tie end 3 – 3 on aggregate and the Kenyan champions advanced on away goals and speaking on SuperSport’s Play Back show on return, Rachier said CNaPS shot themselves out with their negative antics.
He admitted that their opponents were good starters in the game and with a vociferous following at home and should have strived to wrap up thing much earlier.
Time wasting
-They started very well and even won a penalty early in the match but wasted it but recovered from that and took the lead shortly after. Their main undoing was that after they got the third goal they resorted to time wasting. I think they took 44 minutes of time wasting, pretending and faking injuries and that really cost them.
-Things changed for them when we scored the second goal and they did not have the time to get another goal, he said.
Gor Mahia will take on Congolese side AC Leopards in the next stage of the competition.
