RAMAZZOTI LEADS WASPS TO OPENING DAY VICTORY

1 March 2015

Brunei DPMM striker Rafael Ramazzoti scored a hat-trick on his debut to help inspire a 3-1 victory against Harimau Muda at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.
It only took 24 minutes for the Brazilian to open his account after nodding home an inch-perfect corner from Azwan Ali.
The second goal gave the home supporters glimpses of Ramazotti’s abilities since the club made apparent changes in the closed season.
Brimming in confidence from his first goal, the striker ignored the attentions of his marker before striking a spectacular volley into the top corner, giving Harimau Muda’s Farhan Abu Bakar absolutely no chance.
DPMM’s coach Steve Kean certainly understood Craig Fagan’s best position by giving him the flexibility to roam around the flanks, with Azwan Ali on the other end putting defenders to the absolute test.
Harimau Muda looked promising in the first half with their sequence of passes but it was all about the home side looking comfortable while gaining and retaining possession.
The visitors nearly found an opening but Kumaahran Sathasivam could not get his body across and diverted a cushioned header wide, much to the relief of DPMM’s untroubled goalkeeper Wardun Yussof.
The visitors also left questions at the back as Ramazotti capitalised to slot home from close range.
Azwan then came close twice as DPMM repeatedly tore through the Malaysian side’s defence, but the winger was unable to put away those chances he had.
The visitors had a breakthrough on a three-versus-one situation and it could have given the them a route back into the match, but DPMM’s new centre-back partnership of Brian McLean and Boris Raspudic managed to put them off during that deciding moment.
The only minor glitch in an otherwise perfect start for DPMM was ending the game without a clean sheet. In injury time, substitute Ridzuan Abdunloh Pula struck a fizzing shot past a hapless Wardun despite him getting a touch on its way in.
