Derry City 0-5 Dundalk
Dundalk showed why they are SSE Airtriicty League Premier Division champions as they ran out 5-0 winners against ten-man Derry City at the Brandywell.
Stephen Kenny's side were super in the first half and raced into a 3-0 lead at the break, thanks to a brace from David McMillan and a Dane Massey goal.
McMillan completed his hat-trick after the restart and Daryl Horgan also found the back of the net.
The home side's terrible night was summed up on 30 minutes as skipper Ryan McBride was rightfully sent-off for a late challenge on Stephen O'Donnell.
Dundalk raced into a second-minute lead as Daryl Horgan's left wing corner found Brian Gartland and his header towards goal was flicked home by McMillan.
The visitors added a second on 16 minutes when Patrick McEleney's free-kick was superbly turned home by Dane Massey.
Kenny Shiels' team were reduced to ten men on 30 minutes as McBride's poor tackle on O'Donnell saw him receive a straight red card from referee Paul McLaughlin.
Dundalk added a third on 39 minutes as McMillan broke away from the City defence before coolly slotting the ball past Doherty.
The Oriel Park men controlled the second half and, in truth, should have won by a bigger margin.
Dundalk added a fourth just before the hour mark when another sublime move ended with McMillan's shot being parried away by Doherty, but Horgan was on hand to fire home the loose ball.
McMillan was inches away from completing his hat-trick on 75 minutes when his header from 12 yards was outstandingly saved by a fully-stretched Doherty.
The Dundalk front man deservedly completed his hat-trick on 81 minutes when he got half-a-yard on the edge of the box, before blasting high into Doherty's top right-hand corner.
