Atletico Madrid 2-0 Barcelona Player Ratings
Barcelona will not become the first team to retain the Champions League, as a 2-0 defeat at Atletico Madrid knocked them out of the quarter-finals.
The game started a frenetic pace, with Atletico clearly wanting to get the tie level on aggregate, and they harassed their opponents from the word go. This led to a couple of decent chances, but Neymar and Lionel Messi were both dangerous on the counter-attack.
It paid off when Saul put in a wonderful cross with the outside of his left foot, and Antoine Griezmann headed home powerfully.
In the second half Barcelona peppered Atletico’s defence for most of the 45 minutes, but never really tested Jan Oblak that much.
Then came the sucker punch, with Atletico breaking away and winning a penalty through Filipe Luis. Griezmann put it away for his second of the game and Atletico go through to the semi-finals, a fantastic achievement from Diego Simeone’s side.
