McPhail hails old friend's Tallaght visit with Galaxy

Stephen McPhail's connection with Robbie Keane stretches back 23 years and the home-based half of the pair will relish hosting his long-time friend and his LA Galaxy team-mates at Tallaght Stadium in February.

McPhail yesterday agreed terms with Pat Fenlon on another year's contract with the Hoops, after making 19 appearances during his homecoming season following a spell in England that included successful stints at Leeds United and Cardiff City.
Keane was a team-mate of his at Leeds in the early part of the last decade and, after both veered in different directions thereafter, they were reunited yesterday in Dublin 24.
"Robbie told me about the possibility of this match a few weeks ago and it will be great for him to come home to Tallaght," said the 35-year-old. "We were the same age-group, played in the same Dublin District Schoolboys League (DDSL) team, and came all the way through together, so I know Robbie quite well.
Phenomenal
"Robbie's goalscoring record is phenomenal, it's as good as anyone's worldwide, so he's right up there with the great Irish players like Liam Brady and Johnny Giles. Like me, he's not the quickest but his hunger is brilliant."
Rovers have also added former Ireland U-19 midfielder Brandon Miele, back home following a spell at Newcastle United, while ex-Hibernian full-back Tim Clancy is to join in when pre-season training starts next month with a view to a potential contract.
Clancy may be required to provide cover, as captain Conor Kenna is recovering from a hip injury.
Fenlon's intensive search for a striker could see him recruit Derry City's Rory Patterson.
The forward has been made available for transfer by Peter Hutton midway through his contract to help reduce the club's wage bill.
