Club Brugge didn't win the Belgian cup for the 12th time, after a 1-2 defeat against Standard. Lior Refaelov leveled just before the half-hour mark after Dompé's opening goal, but shortly after the break Club were down to ten after a red card for Diaby. Santini decided the Cup Final with a header in the dying minutes of the game.

Michel Preud'homme made three changes to the team that won last week from OH Leuven. In midfield Ruud Vormer forced Claudemir on the bench, while Lior Refaelov and Abdoulay Diaby came in the place of Gedoz and Vossen. In defence Poulain and the new Red Devil Engels had to stop the Standard attacks.
Standard was best out of the starting blocks and created the first danger of the game, but Santini's tame shot didn't trouble goalkeeper Butelle. The Rouches gambled mostly on the pace of Dossevi, Edmilson and Dompé which led to the first goal after seventeen minutes. Dompé came in front of Butelle after a smart move and double pass with Santini, Meunier was too late to block the shot and Butelle was beaten: 0-1. A few minutes later Izquierdo blazed the ball over the goal from quite a distance.

No chances created, but shortly before the half-hour mark Club Brugge equalised nonetheless. Lior Refaelov was awarded a free-kick 23 meters out of goal and curled the ball in nicely. A few minutes earlier Vormer had played the ball inside the path of Diaby, but Valdes had rushed out from his goalline to collect. Standard were again the dominant side in the dying minutes of the first half, with shots by Edmilson and Dossevi and Meunier prevented Dompé to fire in from close range.
More of the same after the half-time tea. Standard, the dominant side, were camped insided Club's half. And to make matters even worse, striker Diaby was sent off with a straight red card. The forward went down after a duel with Kosanovic and reacted to lively. Referee Verbist didn't hesitate to show Diaby the red card.

Despite the numerical minority Club however was not really in trouble. Standard had most of the ball but didn't do a lot with it. Edmilson, Santini and Dompé saw their efforts go wide while Emond's header landed on the roof of the goal. On the other side Refaelov almost teed up Dierckx, but then there was a foot of a Standard defender in the way. In the closing minutes of the game Refaelov had some time and space to hammer the ball towards goal,
 but his effort was blocked.
Both sets of fans were preparing for extra time when Ivan Santini met with Dossevi's cross and headed in past Butelle to give Standard the lead just before the final whistle. Club had one more chance in the last seconds of stoppage time but Valdes was quick to dive at the feet of Gedoz before he could slot home.
