Kennedy Igboananike's spectacular strike put the host Chicago Fire ahead in the first half, but second-half sub Didier Drogba canceled that with his first goal of the season and Ignacio Piattibroke the home fans' hearts when he mimicked Igboananike's goal with a wonder strike of his own in the first minute of stoppage time, giving the Montreal Impact a stunning 2-1 victory.
The victory by Montreal was its second straight and ended Chicago's four-game unbeaten streak, though the Fire did manage to break the team record for consecutive scoreless minutes (previous: 395 minutes; now: 415) by shutting the visitors out for the first half.

Box Score

Three Things

  1. ANYTHING YOU CAN DO, I CAN DO BETTER: Kennedy Igboananike had himself a Goal of the Week contender with his 29th minute curler from the left edge of the penalty box to open the scoring. Then Ignacio Piatti produced a nearly exact copy of that hit, blasting his own curling bomb from the top left corner of the box to close the scoring. What are the Goal of the Week voters supposed to do now?
  2. INSTANT OFFENSE: Everyone knows how fearsome Didier Drogba is for goalkeepers and defenders. But really, scoring the tying goal just six minutes after entering the game Saturday is pretty heroic, even for him. Montreal is leading the Eastern Conference with 12 points after six games (4-2-0) and Drogba has played a total of 70 minutes over two appearances. Imagine how good they’ll be when he starts playing from the opening whistle.
  3. SHUTOUT STREAK ENDS: The Fire went more than 4 1/2 games without giving up a goal and still find themselves below .500 in the early going. Through six games, Chicago has allowed seven goals, but has scored only six. As well as the Fire has played at the back end this year, the offense will need to produce more to keep the pressure off the defense.
