Sebastian Giovinco found the back of the net before everyone could take their seat, and his goal proved enough for Toronto FC, which collected three more points in their long, season-opening road trip on Saturday night by grabbing a 1-0 victory over D.C. United at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.
The game's lone goal came in the opening seconds through Giovinco, who fired home after Marky Delgado slid to clip a ball in the TFC (2-2-2) star's direction.
D.C. United (1-3-3) had chances to pull the game level, but Fabian Espindola and Co. were unable to find a way past Clint Irwin.

Box Score

Three Things

  1. BACK IN THE WIN COLUMN: Saturday's triumph ended a four-game slump for Toronto FC, who had not picked up a victory since defeating the New York Red Bulls, 2-0, in the season opener.
  2. OFFENSIVE PROBLEMS: D.C. United's attack may have exploded for four goals last weekend, but the club has not scored more than once in its other six games thus far this season. Additionally, United has now been shutout three times this year.
  3. MR. EFFICIENT: Sebastian Giovinco finished the match at RFK Stadium with just one shot on goal – the first-minute strike that beat Travis Worra and gave TFC maximum points.
