Kenya rack up 5-2 away win
Kenya put on foot in the next round of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers with a 5-2 victory over hosts Mauritius at Stade George V on Wednesday.
The Harambee Stars took early control of the game though goals from Johanna Omolo and Ajub Masika in the 18th and 23rd minutes respectively, before making 3-0 early in the first half when Haron Shakava scored from close range.
Mauritius threatened a comeback when a Sophie penalty and a Jonathan Bru goal after a scramble in the penalty area made it 3-2, but Kenya pulled further clear with two late goals.
Omolo scored a second to make it 4-2 in the 82nd minute, and shortly thereafter Michael Olunga finished off the game with his side’s fifth goal.
Kenya will host the return game in Nairobi on October 11. The winners of the tie will face Cape Verde in the second round in November.
Ivory Coast edge Morocco in Agadir
Ivory Coast beat Morocco 1-0 in an international friendly match at the Grand Stade d'Agadir on the Moroccan coast on Friday evening.
The CSKA Moscow striker came off the bench to score the decisive goal as the 2015 African Cup of Nations champions ended a three game winless run.
Morocco had the first chance of the match with Eric Bailly there to clear from danger to keep the scores level after 11 minutes. The chance was one of a few in the opening stanza as the two side's matched each other in every department.
With his side offering little in attack Michel Dussuyer introduced Doumbia after the break and the CSKA Moscow man had the desired impact just short of the hour mark.
The on-loan Roma forward rose from a corner-kick to head home a bullet header as he continued his scoring spree - having netted nine goals in 11 matches across all competitions for is club side this term.
For the Ivory Coast the win stretches their unbeaten record against the North Africans to six games with the Atlas Lions having last beaten the West African side in November 1994.

Swaziland go on six-goal romp
Swaziland shed a goal-shy World Cup record by trouncing Djibouti 6-0 Friday in a first round, first leg 2018 qualifier.
The southern Africa team had scored just twice in seven previous away preliminary games, averaging a goal every 315 minutes.
Not only did Swaziland struggle to score, they lost all seven matches, including six-goals hidings from Angola and Togo.
But after taking the lead in first-half stoppage-time in the tiny Horn of Africa state, Swaziland banged another five goals past goalkeeper Guedi Hassan during 24 second-half minutes.
The rout equalled the biggest away victory in a World Cup qualifier in Africa with the Democratic Republic of Congo winning 6-0 in Djibouti in a 2010 eliminator.
Congo Brazzaville, Ghana, Senegal, Tunisia and Zambia have won World Cup qualifiers on the road by five goals.
Djibouti, the weakest national team in Africa and the joint second weakest in the world by rankings, survived until Mthunzi Mkhontfo scored on the stroke of halftime.
But the floodgates opened at the El Hadj Hassan Gouled Stadium once Sabelo Ndzinisa doubled the lead for the Burning Spear 17 minutes into the second half.
Substitutes Muzi Dlamini and Sandile Hlatjwako struck within four minutes, veteran midfielder Tony Tsabedze got the fifth goal and Mxolisi Lukhele completed the blitz.
Somalia, another East African minnow, lost 2-0 at 'home' to Niger after preparations that included physical and ball drills on a rough concrete surface in an Ethiopian hotel car park.
The match was staged at the Addis Ababa Stadium because of on-going clashes between the Somali government and Islamist forces.
China-based Moussa Maazou scored both Nigerien goals, after 58 minutes and four minutes later from a penalty kick.
Somalia, seeking a first World Cup victory after three draws and six losses, created chances but a lack of international experience told against them.
Gambia against Namibia in Bakau near Banjul seemed likely to be the closest of the three Friday qualifiers and so it proved with the hosts fighting back to force a 1-1 draw.
Petrus Shitembi put the reigning Southern Africa champions ahead midway through the second half at the Independence Stadium.
Finland-based Demba Savage, one of many professionals playing for European clubs in the Gambian line-up, equalised 12 minutes from time.
The 13 first-leg schedule finishes on Saturday when Eritrea play Botswana in Asmara, Chad meet Sierra Leone in N'Djamena and the Central African Republic tackle Madagascar in Antananarivo.
Because of violence in Bangui, the Central African Republic must play both legs in the huge Indian Ocean island.
