Mourinho: Fine is 'disgrace'

Jose Mourinho has rounded on the Football Association for perceived inconsistencies in its disciplinary process - and again hit out at Arsene Wenger without naming the Arsenal boss.

Mourinho was handed a one-match suspended stadium ban and fined £50,000 on Wednesday evening after accepting a misconduct charge from the Football Association for comments he made on the officials in the wake of the 3-1 loss to Southampton on October 3.
"I'm happy that I don't have an electronic tag," said the Chelsea boss, who was speaking at Waterstones Piccadilly to promote his book MOURINHO.
"£50,000 is a disgrace. The possibility of getting a stadium ban is astonishing."
Mourinho felt aggrieved Wenger went unpunished for calling referee Mike Dean "weak" and "naive" following Arsenal's defeat to Chelsea last month.
Yet the Portuguese was sanctioned for his criticism of Robert Madeley, the official in the loss to Saints.
Wenger also escaped punishment for pushing Mourinho in the Stamford Bridge technical area in October 2014, something which still grates with the Chelsea boss.
"The difference between afraid and weak and naive is £10,000 and one-match stadium ban," said Mourinho, who will be banned from the stadium if he speaks out of turn again in the next 12 months.
"Afraid costs £50,000. Weak and naive - you can do it."
In a clear reference to Wenger, Mourinho added: "We can push people in the technical area."

Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs inducted into Hall of Fame.

Manchester United greats Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs have been inducted into the National Football Museum Hall of Fame.
The pair were honoured at a ceremony in Manchester along with other legends of the game including former England defenders Norman Hunter and Stuart Pearce.
Giggs helped United win 13 Premier League titles between 1993 and 2013, while Neville collected eight Premier League winners' medals during his time at Old Trafford.
They were also members of the squad which won the Champions League in 1999 and 2008.
Giggs, 41, who is now assistant manager to Louis van Gaal, made his United debut in 1991 and went on to play more than 800 games for the club.
Neville, 42, played 569 times for United between 1992 and 2011 before joining Sky Sports as a football pundit.
Former Manchester United and Republic of Ireland central defender Paul McGrath was also inducted into the Hall of Fame along with Wales legend Ivor Allchurch and former Liverpool and England winger John Barnes.
Faye White, who scored 11 goals in 90 appearances for England, Bob Crompton, voted the 'greatest Rover of all time' by Blackburn fans and Scunthorpe United youth team coach Gary Davies complete the 10-strong list of inductees.
To be eligible for a place in the Hall of Fame, players must be over the age of 30, have finished their career, and have played or managed in England for at least five years.

Liverpool striker Danny Ings out for rest of season with cruciate ligament injury

Danny Ings is out for the rest of Liverpool's season with a knee injury.

The 23-year-old striker, who made his England debut against Lithuania on Monday night, ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in a routine training session at Melwood on Wednesday.

The shock news of Ings' injury broke shortly after new boss Jurgen Klopp's first pre-match news conference and the German made no reference to it.

The summer signing from Burnley will now undergo surgery next week and join Joe Gomez, who also ruptured his ACL this week whilst playing for England U21s, on the sidelines for the rest of the campaign.
Ings' hopes of being involved in Roy Hodgson's squad for next summer's European Championships in France are now in serious jeopardy.
He will definitely miss the friendlies with Spain and France next month and is unlikely to be available for the clash with Germany next March.
Ings had earned a call-up to the England squad with some impressive performances for his new club.
He scored three goals in five games, one of them in the Merseyside derby.
Klopp's striking options are now limited to Daniel Sturridge and another new arrival, Divock Origi.

Arsene Wenger determined to leave Arsenal in great shape for successor

Arsene Wenger says he will be fully committed to bringing glory back to Arsenal "until the last day" of his contract.

And Wenger also told the club's AGM on Thursday night that he was determined to leave the team in good shape for whoever his successor might be.

Quoted in several of Friday's national newspapers, he said: "I am resolute to commit absolutely until the last day of my contract to bring back big success to this club, and leave as well one day in a position where it can do even better.
"That is for me very important, that I leave the club in the shape that the guy who comes after me can do better.
"The responsibility on my shoulders is much bigger, I know what it means for people. I know how sad people are when we don't do well, I know how sad people are when we lose a game."
The Gunners are only two points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City at the moment and Wenger thinks they are legitimate title contenders.
He added: "I think we are back in contention and we have a good chance.
"From January, what for me was the turning point in the history of this team, in the calendar year of 2015, we have taken more points than anybody.
"That means the trend is right."
However, it has not been a good year for Arsenal in the Champions League, as they were knocked out by Monaco last season and have been beaten by Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiakos this term.
And one supporter branded such results as "embarrassing" at the AGM.
But Wenger said: "You have picked three performances that were not good enough. We have played over 150 games in Europe.
"I accept you have to be over-critical when the performances are not good, but look at the number of games Arsenal played in Champions League before I arrived, look after, and come back to me."

Manchester City must win titles says chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak

Manchester City must match their commercial accomplishments with success on the pitch, manager Manuel Pellegrini has been warned.

Club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said City's failure to win a trophy last season did not satisfy the ambitions of a club which finally posted a profit for the first time since Abu Dhabi billionaire Sheikh Mansour purchased the team seven years ago.
Making his annual report on Wednesday, Khaldoon said: "The desire for silverware has always been a critical element of Sheikh Mansour's strategy for the reinvigoration of Manchester City both on and off the pitch.
"It's a strategy predicated on long-term sustainability and the ongoing development of momentum year-after-year.
"The fact that we consider last season to be below par for Manchester City is a testament to how far we have come in the last seven years. This is a level of ambition that we should not shirk or shy away from.

It is right to have high expectations for this great club and the talented group of players chosen to represent it.

Manchester City chairman
"No team can expect to win every year, but competing to win in England's domestic competitions and improving our performance in the UEFA Champions League are entirely reasonable goals for Manchester City.
"It is right to have high expectations for this great club and the talented group of players chosen to represent it.
"To put things in their simplest terms, we are now a profitable business with no debt and no outstanding restrictions."
Chief executive Ferran Soriano agreed that City expected to return to the winners' circle sooner rather than later.
"We are doing a lot of things right but they are not enough," he said.
"We will never be happy about a season without trophies the priority and the focus of our work is to convert more of these opportunities into titles in the years ahead."
City, who won the Premier League title in 2012 and 2014, finished runners-up to Chelsea in May of this year, having also lifted the FA Cup and League Cup once each during the past five seasons.
