Scolari urges caution ahead of second leg

Brazilian coach Luiz Felipe Scolari joined Chinese champions Guangzhou Evergrande in June after replacing Italian Fabio Cannavaro.
Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari believes Guangzhou Evergrande's AFC Champions League semi-final tie with Japan's Gamba Osaka is far from over with the Chinese champions holding a narrow 2-1 lead ahead of Wednesday's second leg at Expo '70 Commemorative Stadium.
Last month's closely-fought victory at Tianhe Sport Centre Stadium against Kenta Hasegawa's Gamba ensured Guangzhou remained undefeated in all competition since the end of May.
However, Feng Xiaoting's first half own-goal does mean Gamba took home an important away goal, regardless of strikes from Huang Bowen and Zheng Zhi either side of half-time that gave Scolari's side the victory on the night.
"I have told the team that the game is not finished yet and anything can still happen, so we have to be very careful still," said FIFA World Cup-winning coach Scolari.
"Gamba Osaka is certainly the best team I have encountered since taking over as coach of Guangzhou. Their team has experience and ability.
"But my players did well in the first leg and I was pleased with them. And I believe they will play well in the second leg. Our team has one goal: win the game."
Guangzhou will be playing the second leg of an AFC Champions League knockout stage game away from home for the first time since the quarter-finals of the 2013 tournament, while Gamba have played every second leg in this year's knockout stage at home.
However, Guangzhou have already enjoyed success in Japan in the knockout round with a 3-1 victory in their quarter-final first leg at Kashiwa Reysol, although the Chinese champions did lose at the home of another J.League side, Kashima Antlers, in the group stage.
"I do not believe playing away from home will have too much impact on our performance," added Scolari.
"No matter playing at home or away we always do our best in every game and strive for victory.
"The most important thing is that my players perform to my expectations and play with confidence and strength. Getting to the AFC Champions League final would be a great honour."
Guangzhou midfielder Huang was a member of the side that lifted the AFC Champions League title two years ago and the 28-year-old has scored in each of the knockout stages so far having netted the first half equaliser last month before captain Zheng headed home after the break.
"We are more mature now than the side that won the title two years ago. This campaign has seen some similarities in terms of taking each stage a game at a time, but the most important thing is that the goal of the team has never changed: to win the AFC Champions League trophy," said the former Beijing Guoan and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors midfielder.
"Gamba are a great football club. Last season they won the treble in Japan, which shows their strength, but it doesn't matter who our opponent is, we always strive for victory.
"It is very important to get to the AFC Champions League final again with my team and prove that Guangzhou are one of the best teams in Asia."
Guangzhou or Gamba will face either Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal or Al Ahli of the United Arab Emirates in next month's final, with their semi-final second leg taking place in Dubai on Tuesday with the sides deadlocked at 1-1 following last month's first leg in Riyadh.
