Wayne Rooney ruled out of Euro 2016 Qualifier with Estonia

Wayne Rooney has been ruled out of England’s Euro 2016 Qualifier against Estonia, so vice-captain Gary Cahill will lead the Three Lions out at Wembley Stadium on Friday night.
Rooney became the country’s all-time top scorer with a penalty against Switzerland last month, but will miss the final home Group E game due to injury.
He has not trained fully since joining up with Roy Hodgson’s squad on Tuesday after picking up a knock for Manchester United at the weekend.
However, the Three Lions captain will remain with the squad as they travel down to their Watford base ahead of the game under the arch and will be at the stadium where he will receive a commemorative golden boot from Sir Bobby Charlton, whose record he beat last month.
Hodgson and Cahill will speak to the press on Thursday afternoon to update on the rest of the squad and preview the game.
Meanwhile, in the morning training activity at the national football centre, Jonjo Shelvey returned to action after missing the week’s first two sessions, while Liverpool’s Danny Ings and Manchester United’s Michael Carrick did not train.

England options?

Unless England fail miserably at Euro 2016 this summer I tend to think Roy Hodgson will carry on through, and all being well up to and including, to the 2018 world cup in Russia wouldn't he?

We've had Alan Pardew's name mentioned, more than once recently.

Pardew for England - click here.

Although I also saw, I didn't actually read the reports, something in the 'gossip column' on the BBC on Thursday that Brendan Rodgers is being sounded out about replacing Hodgson according to some papers?

Then again others have said Roberto Martinez and David Moyes are also options...

If Hodgson moves aside I'm not too keen on former Liverpool manager Rodgers or ex-Everton and Man United man Moyes! Everton's Martinez wouldn't be bad but Crystal Palace's Pardew 'seems' the one at the moment.

Like I say though, much of this is dependant on Hodgson moving aside next summer, which - like I've also said - I don't think that he will unless England have a poor tournament...if we do then, the common consensus is that we go 'with an Englishman' and from these names the only one that fits the bill is Pardew.

Rodgers, in my opinion, was fortunate to get the Liverpool job in the first place and was probably fortunate to keep it was long as he did. Never one to be considered from England if it were up to me!

In fairness, following on from Sir Alex with and with an aging squad that was 'on the decline' was always going to be a difficult job for anyone with it especially difficult for Moyes who failed pretty badly at Old Trafford didn't he? As well as he did with Everton I wouldn't think he's the right option for England?

As a Scot would he even want it!

Of course Martinez isn't English, although if we did go with a foreign options as he's one I wouldn't say no to in all honesty at all as he's got a proven track record of playing attractive football, which in fairness gets results! I think I would enjoy watching footie as him as England manager.

But, as said recently, I would be in full agreement that IF we did change this summer at the moment we couldn't really look beyond Pardew could we...

If Hodgson doesn't carry on I'll be surprised, if he doesn't I, speaking for myself, wouldn't be too impressed if some of these names were genuine options 'under consideration' from the FA!

England Preview v Estonia (h)

ualification was long ago secured by England, although that target of a 100% record is still one the Three Lions are chashing with Estonia's visit to Wembley the penultimate game of qualification tonight.

We already know Roy Hodgson, as you would expected anyway, plans to play 'a very strong team' with this game not seeing England enter 'experimental mode' with him saying as much ahead of the game:

'We are not in an experimental mode, we think we've done enough experimenting.

'We think we do know what we want to do, we think we know the players who are capable of helping us to do what we want to do.'

Michael Carrick had been forced to sit out training on Thursday due to a groin problem but the Man United man will be fit, which isn't the case for his teammate and club and country captain Wayne Rooney with an ankle injury picked up in Sunday's defeat at Arsenal ruling him out.

Rooney Ruled Out Of Estonia

A chance of a first cap for Danny Ings will also be missed, likewise the Liverpool man picked up an ankle injury in the Merseyside derby with Everton but, unlike Rooney, he's not technically been ruled out of the game next week yet...

So far 'other doubts', with Jonjo Shelvey returning to fitness, appear to be fit but John Stones was ruled out earlier in the week with Kyle Walker and Andros Townsend drafted in.

Stones out Walker and Townsend in

Dele Alli could, and I cannot see why not, be given a debut!

No one will be taking Estonia as 'a given' as being another England win but I wouldn't have thought too many would think this will be anything other than another England win would they at the same time?

England Team News: Rooney, Ings Miss Out; Cahill Set To Lead Against Estonia

Roy Hodgson’s England host Estonia in the penultimate Euro 2016 qualifiers with the Three Lions having already qualified for the tournament.

England will be without the services of captain Wayne Rooney and some other key members of the squad at the Wembley tonight. Manager Roy Hodgson confirmed that theManchester United striker will not be risked for the game against Estonia and has been ruled out for the last two qualifiers.
The 29-year-old became England’s record goal-scorer in the last game and is set to be presented with a golden boot by Sir Bobby Charlton ahead of tonight’s game. Rooney sustained an ankle injury in Red Devils’ thrashing against Arsenal FC on Sunday.

It is a disappointment for Wayne — Roy Hodgson

In his pre-match press conference, Roy Hodgson confirmed thatChelsea FC defender and England vice-captain Gary Cahill will lead the side against Estonia. The 68-year-old also confirmed that in-form Liverpool FC striker Danny Ings will miss tonight’s clash, however, the former Swansea boss is hopeful that the 23-year-old striker will feature against Lithuania.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, as quoted by BBC, Hodgson said:
“It is a disappointment for Wayne.
“Wayne is not the type of person or type of player who likes to miss a game.
“It is settling down very, very well but we don’t to risk him on Friday.
“He’s got a lot of important Manchester United games ahead and I would be devastated if we pushed him out there and something happened to increase the problem he has with the ankle.”
Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is also a huge doubt for the clash against Estonia, having missed training on Thursday. However, there is some good news for the Three Lions with Jonjo Shelvey returning to training yesterday.
“Michael Carrick trained fully in quite an intense training session on Wednesday but he had a re-occurrence of a feeling that he sometimes gets in his groin – a slight tightening of the groin – and we didn’t want to take any chances in what was a fairly light session before the match,” saidHodgson.
“So we decided to rest him for the session on the basis that it will help him be fit for tomorrow night.”
