Guus Hiddink's men are left with just the FA Cup and an unlikely top four spot to play for after exiting the Champions League at the last 16 stage
It was a case of deja vu for Chelsea as they exited the Champions League to Paris Saint-Germain at the last 16 stage for a second season running.
Adrien Rabiot's early goal made the Blues' difficult task even harder, but Diego Costa gave the hosts a glimmer of hope with his equaliser on the night just before the half-hour mark.
However, 15 minutes into the second-half Costa, Chelsea's best player on the night, was forced off with injury and the game turned on that moment.
Minutes later, PSG were back in the lead when Zlatan Ibrahimovic turned home Angel Di Maria's centre to make it 4-2 on aggregate.
With Chelsea requiring three more goals due to the away goals rule, the fight drained out of them as PSG sauntered to victory and into the last eight.
